Our Newly Redesigned Retirement Benefits Portal

Today, I’m excited to announce the first of several steps we’re taking to improve your experience on our website. Our newly redesigned retirement benefits portal will help you prepare for and apply for retirement.

We are working hard to continue improving our website to provide you with clear, helpful information, and easy access to our online services. Our new retirement portal is more user-friendly and easier to navigate, whether you’re ready to learn about, apply for, or manage your retirement benefits.

The redesigned portal will make it easier for you to find and read about retirement benefits, with fewer pages and clearer information. We condensed and rewrote most of the pages to make them easier to understand. The portal is optimized for mobile devices so people can learn and do what they want from wherever they want. And you can now subscribe to receive retirement information and updates.

Visit our new retirement benefits portal to find out how to Learn, Apply, and Manage retirement benefits. You also can learn how to create your own personal my Social Security account to see your latest Social Security Statement, review your earnings history, and receive personalized estimates of future benefits based on your real earnings.

More improvements to Social Security’s web pages are planned for later in 2020 as we continuously seek to improve your experience on our website.

      Hi Scott, thanks for using our blog. Our system is set up to take applications four months in advance of when you want your benefits to begin. When you’re ready, you can apply for your benefits online.

    Due to COVID 19 I have lost a viable income. I applied for a job and finally received a job offer on June 25th. I received an email on June 29stating that the new job requires that I upload my Social Security Card before my start date, which was July 16th. I immediately called the Social Security Office on June 30th and was told to submit my application by mail along with the required documents. I submitted the documents and mailed them on July 1st. The documents were returned to me on July 17th. I called the ss office no one can explain why the card had not been processed. They did state that the documents sent were accurate and that “it is being worked on”. I have asked my potential employer twice to please give me time to receive my card. The employer has given me two start dates. The lasted date given to upload the documents is July 27th. It is apparent now that I won’t make that date. I will not be able to work due to the social security administration. My husband applied for his card and received in on last Tuesday. I don’t know what to do but ill continue to pray and seek employment.

      Hi Carol, thanks for using our blog. We are sorry to hear about the difficulties you are experiencing with Social Security. One thing that you can do while you’re waiting for the card is to call your local office and see if they will mail you an SSN printout. We are unable to process replacement Social Security card requests by phone but can offer this. Use our Social Security Office Locator to find your local office address. We hope this helps.

        I just got off the phone with my local office and they said there is no such thing as a SSN printout and that they don’t mail out anything with the social security number on it. I will reach out to my US senator and I am writing to Commissioner Andrew Saul today to voice my concerns and why I could not accept a much needed job. This is another area of government that is poorly operated.

    I would like to apply on line for Divorced Spouse’s Benefits. I can’t locate the forms to do it.
    I’m 76 years old, married 43 years, divorced 7 years. Not remarried. I’m eligible.

      Hi Marina, thanks for using our blog. If you are divorced and currently unmarried, you may be able to receive benefits on your ex-spouse’s record if your marriage lasted 10 years or longer. Your benefit as a divorced spouse can be equal to one-half of your ex’s full retirement amount only if you start receiving those benefits at your full retirement age.

      Remember, if you qualify for your own retirement benefits and for benefits as a divorced spouse, we always pay your own retirement benefits first. If your benefits as a divorced spouse are higher than your own retirement benefits, you will get a combination of benefits equaling the higher divorced spouse benefit.

      You can apply online by using our Social Security Retirement/Medicare Benefit Application to apply for retirement, spouse’s, divorced spouse’s or Medicare benefits.

    I’m sure glad you have recognized that there are problems. My husband has been trying since MARCH (we are now July) to get this retirement benefits started. He turned 70 and has been told something different by every person he has spoken to. He has received several letters that say this on line one and the exact opposite on line 2. Then the next day he gets another letter that says something different. He was a salaried employee for about 45 years. Why is this hard?

        I’ve had 9 contacts between the 800-772-1213 and my local office trying to start retirement benefits effective January 2020. I’m told to expect action that never happens. Last call to the Memphis office was almost comical. Transferred to an extension that said “I no longer work here; call back”. Then finally was able to talk to a person, but I was told “I don’t know how retirement benefits work….I’ll have someone call you back”. Of course, after 3 weeks still waiting for that call back.

    To whom it may concern,

    Doing business with your entity as a whole has been a nightmare. I waited over 3 months for ssn for my adopted children. I have been given misinformation over the phone. I have Spent close to 100.00 to mail you confidential paperwork over night only for no one to be at the actual office. I have been hung up on by your national call center and my call routes to an overflow city when I call my local office. I am tired. I am exhausted. I am bloody and bruised yet I must still stay the course to get this task done. Outside of picketing your front offices I dont know what else to do. I need my passport returned to me. I need my children’s social security cards. I need your front line to do their jobs. I’m tired.

      Contact your State Senator’s office. Call their office and email straight from your district Senator’s web page. I had to do this recently and they got involved and the SSA corrected my situation pretty quickly. Stay percsistant and they will help you. Start recording every time you contact the SSA. Also contact your local media.

    I am not able to create an online account with Social Security, because both my User Name and Password are not being accepted.
    When I call the SSA on the phone, they basically give me the run around. Their offices are closed due to Covid 19.
    I have not received my monthly payment from SSA since February 2020.
