    Good afternoon,
I was thinking about retiring from my current job next year (not paying SS at this current job); but I have 30 years from prior work and am eligible this November. I began the application process and it said I had to complete by January or I would not be eligible for benefits. What if I decide to continue at current job on part-time basis or locate another job that withholds ss? I am really unsure how this would affect my ss benefits, if I start receiving them in December or January.

Hi, Mary Jo. Thanks for your question. Social Security retirement applications can be filed up to 4 months in advance. Medicare applications can be filed up to 3 months prior to age 65. When you are ready you can complete the online application for Social Security retirement benefits in as little as 15 minutes. We hope this helps.

I applied for Social Security benefits February 27, 2022. When will I have the decision? It has been 2 1/2 months and your website states 2-4 weeks. Please advise.

Thanks for your question, Robert. We will not know if there will be a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2023, and if so the amount of the COLA, until the Department of Labor releases information on inflation for the past year. For the latest news and updates on Social Security, please check out our home webpage. We hope this helps.
