Hi there, I do not have a U.S. mailing address as I live outside of the country (not in the military). Can you tell me if it’s still possible to sign up for a “my Social Security” account?

    Thank you.

    • V.V.

Hi James, thanks for using our blog. At this time you must have a U. S. mailing address to create or access your online account. The “my Social Security” authentication system requires address verification as one of the essential criteria for issuing an account. People with APO/FPO/DPO addresses can create an account overseas, but our system does not support registration and account creation for users with a foreign address yet.

Even though you are unable to create a my Social Security account, you may still want to check out the numerous online services that are available. We hope this helps!

In 2021 how much do I need to earn, to earn a credit?

    • V.V.

Hi John, thanks for using our blog. In 2021, you earn one Social Security or Medicare credit for every $1,470 in covered earnings each year. You must earn $5,880 to get the maximum four credits for the year. For more details about the 2021 changes, visit our Cost-of-Living Adjustment information page. We hope this is helpful!

Haven’t received it yet as of 12/12/20.

    • V.V.

Hi, My wife and I are both US citizens living abroad. We still have some time to retirement when we will look forward to availing of social security benefits. But we would like to view our estimated social security benefits. How do we register with a foreign address ?

    • V.V.

Hi Praveen, thank you for your question.

We recommend that individuals living outside the United States contact the nearest Federal Benefit Unit in the area for any assistance related to Social Security programs and benefits. Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad.
