you know where to find usFor 80 years, Social Security has been there for you and your family when you need us most. And, finding us at our field offices, where you can speak with an employee face-to-face, is easier than ever!

Our handy Field Office Locator is accessible from your computer and mobile device. On the website, you can enter your zip code to find the address, phone number and hours of the Social Security office closest to you. You can also use this tool to see a map and get directions; if you’re on your mobile device, it will even give you turn-by-turn directions.

Since you are already online, you could skip the traffic and lines by taking advantage of our other online features, too. Check out What You Can Do Online, where you’ll find that many of our services are just a click away!

For example, you use the Retirement Estimator to estimate future benefits, apply for Social Security benefits online and sign up for a personal my Social Security account. Setting up a personal my Social Security account is convenient and secure. You’ll have access to your Social Security Statement, and if you already receive benefits, you can view and print your verification letter and manage your benefits.

Some people prefer doing business in person, though, and that’s why our offices are there! Our employees are passionate about providing you with the best service possible, and we’re proud of our long history of doing so. When you visit us, whether in person or online, we’re always ready to help!

I will be 62 in November. I would like to retire Jan 1, 2019.
How may I get an appointment for local office in August & what papers do I need to bring with me? I am a widow.

    • Ray F.

Hello Debra. Our system is set up to take applications three months in advance. Benefits are paid the month after they are due. So, for instance, if you want your benefits to begin with the month of January, you will receive your first benefit payment in February.
In many cases, a widow (or surviving divorced spouse) can restrict the scope of their application and start receiving their survivor’s benefits, while delaying their own retirement benefit and earn delayed retirement credits. The rules are complicated and vary depending on the situation. Unfortunately, you cannot apply for survivors benefits online.
In your case, you will have to speak to a Social Security representative to discuss your options and file the correct application for benefits.
When ready, you can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778). Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Generally, you will experience a shorter wait time if you call later during the day or later in the week. Or you can contact your local Social Security office directly. An appointment is not required, but if you call ahead and schedule one, it may reduce the time you spend waiting to apply.
      We hope this information helps!

I want to make an appointment during the month of July 2018

    • Ray F.

Hello Terri. Some of our local offices do offer walk-in appointments; however, these appointments are on a first come, first serve basis. Keep in mind that many of our services are conveniently available anytime at our website. We encourage our customers to create a my Social Security account. With a personal my Social Security account, you can get estimates of your retirement, disability, and survivors benefits, review your earnings record and much more.
Also, you can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 and speak to a Social Security representative between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
      We hope this information helps!

  3. Nasrin A.

    Hi,
I like to make Appointment at Aliso Viejo, CA office to go over my benefits and Medicare as soon as possible..
    Thank you so much.

    • Ray F.

Hi Nasrin. Some of our local offices do offer walk-in appointments; however, these appointments are on a first come, first serve basis. An appointment is not required, but if you call ahead and schedule one, it may reduce the time you spend waiting to speak to someone. It will also establish “protective filing” and prevent any loss of benefits.
Most Social Security services do not require a visit to a local office. Many services, including applying for retirement, disability or Medicare benefits are conveniently available at http://www.socialsecurity.gov. Also, you can create a my Social Security account to review your earnings record and get an estimate of your future benefits.

where is my social security check

    • Jenna Y.

Hi Nicole. If you do not receive your payment on your scheduled pay date, we usually advise people to wait three days after the date you normally receive it before calling us. To report a late or missing payment, contact us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Your bank may also be able to tell you why a deposit failed. For future reference, you can create a my Social Security account to change Direct Deposit online at http://www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount/ Hope this helps!
