you know where to find usFor 80 years, Social Security has been there for you and your family when you need us most. And, finding us at our field offices, where you can speak with an employee face-to-face, is easier than ever!

Our handy Field Office Locator is accessible from your computer and mobile device. On the website, you can enter your zip code to find the address, phone number and hours of the Social Security office closest to you. You can also use this tool to see a map and get directions; if you’re on your mobile device, it will even give you turn-by-turn directions.

Since you are already online, you could skip the traffic and lines by taking advantage of our other online features, too. Check out What You Can Do Online, where you’ll find that many of our services are just a click away!

For example, you use the Retirement Estimator to estimate future benefits, apply for Social Security benefits online and sign up for a personal my Social Security account. Setting up a personal my Social Security account is convenient and secure. You’ll have access to your Social Security Statement, and if you already receive benefits, you can view and print your verification letter and manage your benefits.

Some people prefer doing business in person, though, and that’s why our offices are there! Our employees are passionate about providing you with the best service possible, and we’re proud of our long history of doing so. When you visit us, whether in person or online, we’re always ready to help!

It beggars belief that none of the local offices provide local phone numbers. I called the 800 number to make an appointment for a visit and had a recording tell me that my wait time to do so was 55 minutes. Just to MAKE an appointment. This hardly qualifies as making it easy.

How can I learn what the actual dollar amount will be when I retire at full retirement age? What is my personal earned amount?

    • Ray F.

Hi Paula, our Retirement Estimator gives estimates of monthly Social Security benefits based on your actual Social Security earnings record. In addition, we have a variety of other calculators to help you plan for the future. Which calculator you choose depends on what you want to do.
Visit our Retirement Planner for more important information.
We suggest that you create a my Social Security account. With your personal my Social Security account, you can verify your earnings, get your Social Security Statement, and much more. Happy planning!

I would like to know where my Social Security check is for the month of March, 2018.

  4. Marcella H.

I waited 2 3/4 hours listening to music and how sorry the SSA was for the wait time and every once in a while the friendly voice said they would be with me in as soon as possible and then we were informed of the number of SSA recipients all of whom evidently called on Nov. 17, 2017 I finally gave up. The local office number was a i-866-770-1881.

When My husband died my Social Security check increased. Now, when anyone else gets a raise, I DO NOT, because I draw some of his. Why do I not get a raise on my own check. Thanks for answering so I can understand better.

I completed an online application for SS retirement benefits on 6/28/2017, FRA 10/1/2017. I received an email from an SS employee 7/11/2017 asking me to call a number and extension to discuss my options. I called and left a message with my call back number 7/11 with no call back. I left a message 7/24 with no call back. I called the main SS office on 7/26 because I was a little skeptical about the email. I was told that it was a legitimate SS employee and that she would call me back. I got a letter from SS this time asking me to call the number/ext by 8/2. I called the number again on 7/31 and left a message a 3rd time. On 8/1 the SS employee called but I was stuck in traffic on the highway and my cell phone kept cutting out. I told her I had a hard time understanding her and I wasn’t sure the information she was giving me was correct. I said it didn’t seem consistent with what I had read on the SS website, but the voice was cutting off. I started to say “I would like to look this up on the computer, but I’m not at home, and she interrupted me with what sounded like a defensive statement “You would like to do what?” I was surprised at that. I told her several times I couldn’t hear her very well but she kept talking. I said I wanted to talk to someone else and get back to her. The next day, 8/2, I left another message for her, asking if we could go over it again and I have heard nothing since. Is this how it works. I did the application online to avoid this kind of thing. It would be nice if SS could set up phone appointments with people. Some days I have been afraid to leave home because I might miss the call, but I can’t put my life on hold for a few months. This is stressful.

We apologize for the delay and inconveniences you are experiencing, Linda. Unfortunately, but for security reasons, we do not have access to personal records in this blog. Please continue working with the office that’s handling your claim. You can request to speak with the manager if necessary. Also, you can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213, representatives are available Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Generally, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later in the week. Thanks.

I have 2 minor children that live with me who receive survivor’s benefits. The children came to live with me in May and I made an appointment right away with our local office to become their representative payee. At my appointment, on June 6, I went through the application process for both of them. Benefits started arriving July 1 for one of the children and as of today the other child has not received any of his. I called right away in July to question this and was told there was some type of computer glitch on their end for the child’s benefits and that they were working on it. I have made a dozen different calls over the last few months and each time I am told something different and that they are working on it, someone will call me back and that it should be resolved within the next 15 days. I never receive a call back and after 2 weeks I end up calling again. Also, during this time the benefits have been incorrectly deposited into the account of the child’s mother and the last time they weren’t even able to tell me if they were able to get them back. I have asked multiple times what I can do to get this straightened out and never get an answer, the local office tells me it’s on the payment office end and the payment office tells me it’s on the local end. Can anyone please tell me what I can do, or who I can talk to so I can get this child his benefits?

Thank you, I have recently been searching for information about this subject for a long time and yours is the greatest I’ve came upon till now. However, what concerning the conclusion? Are you certain about the source?

The SSA misspelled my daughter’s last name on her social security card. She was born in Russia and adopted by my husband and I as an infant. Her name is correct on her birth certificate. I would like to visit a social security office with her to get this corrected so that she can apply for an ID at the DMV. First, do we have to visit the office in our zip code or can we go to one that is more convenient for us to get to? Second, does she need both her parents there to verify anything? and finally, we do need her to have an ID quickly; will the change take a long time to process. Thanks very much

    • Ray F.

Hi Josie, you may visit the Social Security office or card center closest to you. See what documents your daughter will need to correct her name on the card. We hope this helps.
