I need a new Social Security card. I live in NJ. Can I get a new card by an online request or by mailing a form in ?

My daughter receives SSD. SSA withheld $17,000 for attorneys fees, almost one year ago. We have tried with letters, calls, the attorney called from ODAR and they keep stalling not to return her money.. They know the attorney was fired plus he never filed the petition for fees. Now they tell us to wait for the Payment Center to contact her. How do we get the funds she is entitled to? My daughter was diagnosed with mental illness.

    • Ray F.

Hi Lori. Unfortunately, but for security reasons, we do not have access to personal records in this blog. Please continue working with your local office. If you are unable to visit the local office, you can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213, representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Generally, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later in the week.

    Can she register on line,
Or does she have to go to a social security office?

  6. Lonnie s.

My wife just turned 64 1/2. I was told that she has to register with social security as to notify SS that she plans to receive benefits once she gets 67yrs old. It’s this true?

    • Ray F.

Hello Lonnie, our system is set up to take applications for benefits three months in advance.
We recommend that individuals within three months of age 65 or older and not ready to start their monthly (cash) retirement benefits sign up for Medicare -ONLY- and apply for their retirement benefits at a later date.
Please visit our Social Security Retirement Planner for more information.
