Follow these simple steps to begin:

  1. Review the information on our Retirement/Spouse’s, Disability, Medicare, or Supplemental Security Income Benefits page to make sure you meet the requirements to apply for benefits online and have the information you will need to do so.
  2. Create or sign in to your personal my Social Security account.
  3. File your claim online.

After I have applied for retirement income online how long does it take to get approved?
How would I know if there is a problem with my application?

This is the worst site ever two hours I have been trying to find re-entry code how to get it because I forgot and calling on hold for an hour never called me back sickening if you want to retire just like a government agency sinks

When trying to fill out the online social security benefits application I noted that the phone number listed in the ‘my account’ had the wrong phone number.
When I said that I wanted to change the phone number the prompt said that I would need to request that a ‘code’ be mailed to me per the postal system.
Once I selected the option of having the code mailed to me, a prompt came up saying, ‘we cannot currently process your request’ (or some verbiage similar to this.)
My question is…did my request for the ‘code’ go through? I hate to wait 5-10 days (the time frame they said it might take for it to arrive) and find out that my request did not go through.

    Dear Sir/Madam,
    Social Security No: *** – ** – ***
Re: Online Application Re-Entry No: 23579555

I completed and submitted an application for Social Security Benefit yesterday Monday 21 January 2020.
It stated that I have to take original documents (birth certificate & permanent residency documents) to Federal Benefits Unit at the US Embassy, London. So far I haven’t been able to speak to anyone in that department – to obtain details as to access to Embassy. e.g do I make an appointment? plus I can’t access my application –
    Please can you advise…
    many thanks,
    yours sincerely,
    Josine Bradbear

    • A.C.

Hi, Imeda. You are eligible to apply for survivor benefits when you reach age 60 (age 50 or over if disabled). However, there are other factors that may affect your entitlement to these benefits. You can find more information on survivors benefits here. Thanks!
