woman sitting by fireplace on her laptop In April, we celebrate National Social Security Month, and highlight our agency’s mission and purpose. We’re with you throughout life’s journey — from birth, to marriage, and into retirement — and we’re always searching for ways to give you easy and secure access to everything we offer.

We are constantly expanding our online services to give you freedom and control in how you wish to conduct business with us. Our online services help you plan for the future and keep you in control of your benefits. You can go online to:

  1. Find out if you qualify for benefits.
  2. Use our benefit planners to help you better understand your Social Security protection.
  3. Estimate your future retirement benefits to help you plan for your financial future.
  4. Retire online, or apply for Medicare quickly and easily.
  5. Open your personal my Social Security account. Your personal account is the most powerful tool to help you stay in control of your Social Security record. If you don’t receive benefits yet, you can:
    • Get your Social Security Statement to review your earnings, make sure they’re recorded correctly.
    • Get a benefit verification letter to prove you don’t receive Social Security benefits or that you applied but haven’t received an answer yet.
    • Request a replacement Social Security card if you meet certain requirements.
    • Check the status of your application or appeal a decision.

If you receive benefits, you can:

  1. Change your address and phone number.
  2. Get a benefit verification letter to prove you receive Social Security benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or Medicare.
  3. Start deposits or change your direct deposit information at any time.
  4. Get a replacement Medicare card.
  5. Get a replacement Benefit Statement (SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S) for tax purposes.

Do you own a business? You can also use our Business Services Online suite to report employee wages and verify names and Social Security numbers for W-2s.

Join us and celebrate National Social Security Month by seeing everything you can do online!

Great site. I’ve been retired and drawing SS for 13 years. I also receive two other checks which have SS payments deducted. Am I entitled to an increase in my current SS.

    • Ray F.

Thank you, James! Your thoughts are important to us and we’re pleased when feedback is positive.
If you’re working, current law requires that everyone working in covered employment or self-employment regardless of age or eligibility for benefits must pay Social Security taxes. If you work while receiving retirement benefits, your monthly benefit amount could increase. Each year, we review the records for all working Social Security recipients to see if additional earnings may increase monthly benefits.
See our Benefits Planner: Getting Benefits While Working for more information. Thanks!

I have submitted two (2) applications for Extra Help assistance (9/23/17 and 12/20/17). I have written to them four (4) times requesting a reply as to the status (2/4/18, 2/20/18, 3/12/18 and 3/27/18). As of 4/15/18 I have not received any response at all. What do I have to do to get them to respond to me?!?!?

    • Ray F.

When I reached 65 I certified I did not want Medicare part B! I have been calling SS to take me off Part B, I have insurance from my husband who is still working and paying insurance. I haven’t used Part B, but my own personal insurance when I have needed it.
I have called several times, have been told I will get a call back and never happens. How can I get this resolved and get my money back for all the payments I have made to Medicare B?

    • Ray F.

We apologize for any inconvenience. Our policy requires a personal interview be conducted with everyone who wants to terminate their Medicare Part B benefits. We
If your Medicare Part B is continuing you need to contact your local Social Security office immediately. If necessary, our representatives at your local office will help you submit the required Form CMS-1763, “Request for Termination of Premium Hospital and /or Supplementary Medical Insurance”, or your signed request for termination. Thanks.
