All local Social Security offices will be closed to the public for in-person service starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020. This decision protects the population we serve—older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions—and our employees during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, we are still able to provide critical services.

Please read our press release to learn more, including how to get help from the Social Security Administration by phone and online. You can also visit our website to learn more and stay up to date.

I was affected by the covid-19, I work at a desk but some times I have to ride in a truck to manage my company’s driver’s. When covid-19 hit the company furloughed all my driver’s and put me in a truck full time 60 to 70 hrs a week. I have been fighting a spinal problem for 4yrs back and forth with Dr’s. When they put me in a truck full time it s aggravated my spine and my Dr put me on light duty, my company didn’t like that. My company told me due to covid-19 they can’t have light duty workers right now, so they told me to take fmla. Since I’m bieng forced to take the fmla because of covid-19 shouldn’t I qualify for the relief program? Thank you for your time.

I need to change my payee. How is this being handled during the pandemic with offices closed to the public

    • Vonda V.

Hi Denise, thanks for using our blog to ask your question. Please contact your local Social Security office regarding a representative payee change. Look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

How can I get my social security number?
Can I come by the admin office?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Launic, thank you for your question. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you may be able to apply online. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to apply for a replacement Social Security card. If you are unable to apply online and you do not want to mail in your documents, which will be returned, you may need to wait for the offices to reopen. You can also call your local office and see if they will mail you an SSN printout instead of a replacement Social Security card. We are unable to process replacement Social Security card requests by phone at this time. Use our Social Security Office Locator to find your local office address. We hope this helps.
