Coronavirus (COVID-19): Important Information about Social Security Services

All local Social Security offices will be closed to the public for in-person service starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020. This decision protects the population we serve—older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions—and our employees during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, we are still able to provide critical services.

    I am a single disable 42 yr old father of three who now has all three and of my children at home with me! I’ve had custody of m babies there entire lives, I did not withhold taxes from my disability check, but have worked and paid taxes my entire life. I suffer from seizures due to traumatic brain injury sustained As a child. I’m hoping for the best, and I’m proud to have my babies all here w me and safe and sanitary and clean.

      I congrats you for staying strong in raising them children. I am hoping that everyone will get a little extra help no matter how they provide for themselves or they family. Best to you and all.

    The implication is that this method will be faster and more direct than a payroll tax cut, but beyond that, we’re short on details. And those details really matter.

    A payroll tax cut, for instance, only benefits people currently working, does nothing for people who’ve been laid off or for hourly workers, and, as Mnuchin suggested, moves slowly. An unrestricted cash check of, say, $1,000 to every American adult, as Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) has proposed, would also benefit people out of work, those on fixed incomes or living on disability or retirement benefits, and so on.

    I think that this government should be ashamed of themselves if they don’t help people on SSI. I used to work but only qualified for SSI after bipolar hit hard because I worked for a university (public job). I’m not doing good on 783/month now. Now only getting 119 in food stamps and will likely run out of food during a quarantine…

    For the last time, Mitch McConnell just said on national TV that retirees and disabled Americans will get a check. This is NOT a tax cut or a small stimulus meant to generate an economic spark, this is money meant to (A) : keep peoples’ lights on, provide money to get people through their jobs being shut down, give families the breathing room to make it through medical emergencies, sick children, and slashed 401K’s, and most importantly to get money spent as fast as possible to generate a heartbeat with in the economy. The rules from the 2008-2009 stimulus DO NOT APPLY and would not be sufficient or smart. Whoever posted that link has absolutely no clue what they are talking about. Plus democrats will NEVER allow minority constituents on SSI to be left out of the stimulus.

      it would help if you could post a link, video, article documenting that Mitch McConnell said even disabled and retirees will get a stimulus check. It’s hard to take anyone’s word on here unless they can source what they say.

    I have direct express. Will it stay the same ? My guess is yes.
    I however do not understand why on a income of 783$ people on ssi will not get any help from y’all . People that pay taxes get there taxes back . We struggle every month to take care of ourselves on 100 $ in food stamps n 783 $ in money. 🙁

      Also more than likely having to stock on food and taxable. Being I make only 783 on dissability. 100 on food and no Resorses in SC I’m past due 9n a bill.
      May be evicted which I don’t think it’s fare people draw a stimulus plus heap of taxes back while dissabled people are going home less and hungry.
      Good luck all. Never wish yourself dissabled . It’s hard at our age 🙁
