My mother, Ruth F. Cesare, did not receive her 2020 social security benefits statement to date. She is a resident of the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy, New York, is 97 years old, deaf with dementia and Alzheimer. The NYS Dept. of Social Services as well as the Eddy need a copy of this statement for budget purposes. How can I go about obtaining such? Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I have her personal info on hand as well as power of attorney.

    • Ann C.

Hi, Carolyn. Thank you for your question. Because of privacy and security concerns, Social Security cannot speak to you about your mother’s benefits. If your mother is not capable of managing and directing her Social Security benefits, someone should consider applying to be her representative payee. Even though you are power of attorney, you, or someone else, would still need to apply to serve as her payee. To learn more about becoming a representative payee, you can read our publication, A Guide for Representative Payees You can also call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) to request an appointment. We hope this information helps.

All I want is to view my SSA1099 for 2019. Your web site offers everything but that. It stinks.

    • Ann C.

Hi, Dorris. The SSA-1099 is mailed by January 31 each year. If for any reason you do not receive your SSA-1099 in the mail by now, you can request a replacement SSA-1099/1042S for Tax Year 2020 by visiting your personal my Social Security account. We hope this helps.

  7. ARGEL M.

I can’t view the application that I started but didn’t finish. When I try, I get this alert:

“Activation code does not exist in our records.”

How can I find that code?

    • Ann C.

Hi, Argel. For your security, we do not have access to private information in this venue. We ask that members in our Blog community work with our offices with specific questions. If you still need assistance, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Generally, you will have a shorter wait if you call later in the day. You can also contact your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

Message to Mr. Doug Walker, Deputy Commissioner, Office of Communications. Dear sir,
I’m a US Citizen. I was and I am a retiree since October 1999. I did not work enough to accumulate the necessary points to get Medicare, Part A, so I have had to pay for it during 14 years, since I turned 65. As a widow living on a small foreign pension, I have struggled to pay $572.50 before and $602.60 in 2020. Sir, something is no good in the SSA system that needs to be revised. My 3 kids pay huge amounts on income tax and I, as everybody else, have paid homeowner’s and sales taxes during 20 years now. I feel I’m being penalized for growing old for, at age 79, MEDICARE keeps increasing my health costs.

I speak with an open heart, for the sake of good nationalized citizens. Please Sir, speak up on this subject. I am sure you will be heard. Let’s justice and truth prevail! in America. Let’s not forget that, except for the Native Indians, all U.S. citizens, in different times, have come to this blessed land seeking work opportunities but, also, hoping to find justice for all… for all who have worked and continue to work hard to enrich this blessed land. Thank you, Mr. Walker.

Hi, Ronald. If you are receiving Social Security retirement or disability, you can create a personal my Social Security account to change your telephone number online. If you are receiving Supplemental Security Income, you should contact your local office immediately. We hope this helps.

    1. Unable to sign in to my account. Account now locked. On hold for Help Desk for over 15 minutes. I gave up.
    2. Form SSA-7004 to get my statement by mail not available. PDF page a grey blank. No form ever appeared on screen for printing.

All in all a disappointing experience. Will have to call again another day to get access to my account and try to get a form.
