Earlier this week, The White House issued national guidance regarding Opening Up America Again. We are evaluating this information as it relates to our agency and are continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation across the nation. In fulfilling Social Security’s mission, when we reopen offices to the public, we will provide a safe environment for both the people we serve and our employees.

As we continue to develop our plans, our offices will remain closed to the public for face-to-face service, and our employees will continue to work remotely and provide services to the public. We will provide updates moving forward and post updated information on the status of our offices, by state, at our website. Our agency will provide these updates directly, and please disregard other sources of information regarding the status of our offices.

We will continue to provide the vital service the public relies on. Please visit our website for more information about our services during the pandemic.

    Dear Sir or Madam ,

We have contacted so many items the Soc Sec office in Boston at 10 Causeway St, Boston, MA 02222. We have sent applications via mail and we are still with no help on issuance of social security cards. They tell us unless an institution or employer writes for you , we can not issue the cards. How long we have to wait ? can someone intervene and help us ? We need social security cards and we are legal permanent residents in this country. Please call at 917 847 9947.

Hi Kadrie. Thanks for using our blog. To follow up on the application, please contact your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

So when is social security getting back from vacation? it must be nice money vacation, then you have the pions who are struggling everyday with back rent car payments etc. nobody will return your calls pandemic or no pandemic.i can’t imagine what its going to be like when they get back from vacation. its going to be due to the virus we have to wait for answers. and Mr.Saul why don’t you do a follow up on whose doing there jobs? your probably hanging out with them. I’ve been waiting since January for answers to my issues. Get it together and stop saying how sorry you are for the inconvience. When u don’t care. Just get back to work , funny if u owe the govt. money social security would be fighting to take your calls.

Your online services DO NOT WORK.

We need to apply for SSN for the first time which requires an in person interview. It has passed about 3 months and you still do not have a solution for cases such this. You do not care about the people who need to work to pay their bills. Because you still have your jobs. But it is tough for the rest of us.
I found this article online where clearly states that you do not want to open because of the union. The SSA was created to serve all the residents of this country, it does not belong to its employees or union. You must open and serve your country as you agreed when you were hired.
I keep reading this system and it seem very easy for you to respond with the same automated message, and it is the same automated message if I dare to call.
Stop lying and open as the rest. This is the article:

Here’s an idea…start offering all of the services that can be obtained by visiting a local SSA office without excuses. There are ways to verify that someone is who they say they are on the phone. You guys need to be operating in “all hands on deck” mode during these times.

Not sure why it takes 3 months to formulate a plan. The local offices already have glass partitions in place and the armed security guards can enforce social distancing. No more excuses..

Can you confirm that you will be reopening? Many people are in dire need of services that can only be obtained by visiting the local SSA office. Setting up an SSA account is not an answer. I have seen many try to set up an SSA account online and fail and then get locked out of the system. Very frustrating. The whole world has made plans to reopen but the SSA is silent. Please formulate a plan and set a date. We need the services you provide.

I recently sent certified mail documents to my local office they received them but never got returned. They blame usps and Vice versa. I was told that social security may never open again. I need to change my name and was told I had to send my divorce decree which was one of the documents that was list and my real license. I do not trust that either would be returned to me after what I went through. So will the offices be opening again or not?

    • V.V.

Hi Laurie. Our offices remain closed to the public for face-to-face service. We are still able to provide critical services via phone, fax and online. For more information and to subscribe for updates, visit https://www.ssa.gov/coronavirus/.

Please continue to work with your local Social Security office regarding your documents. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

I have the same issue. I have been calling my local office in opealousis for the past 3 months or so, even after tracking the documents it doesn’t show wether they were received or not? I personally went to the post office and even called the usps people but they confirmed that the documents were delivered to the social security offices. I have been calling Social Security Office almost 10 times asking them to just return the mail to the address and all i get is a wait “the manager will contact you in a few regarding your issue” but nothing happens. My concern is for the document is it safe? We all know that the card is a vital document and someone tampering with it can cause serious problems. All i need is a return of the documents which includes the original mispelt card and I will only come when you guys are open.
