Earlier this week, The White House issued national guidance regarding Opening Up America Again. We are evaluating this information as it relates to our agency and are continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation across the nation. In fulfilling Social Security’s mission, when we reopen offices to the public, we will provide a safe environment for both the people we serve and our employees.

As we continue to develop our plans, our offices will remain closed to the public for face-to-face service, and our employees will continue to work remotely and provide services to the public. We will provide updates moving forward and post updated information on the status of our offices, by state, at our website. Our agency will provide these updates directly, and please disregard other sources of information regarding the status of our offices.

We will continue to provide the vital service the public relies on. Please visit our website for more information about our services during the pandemic.

Hi, my wife finally received her temporary work permit and we are awaiting the final interview for her green card. We were legally married in the US in December after she arrived on the K1 fiance visa. She has a social security card with her maiden name from when she was a student in the US. She was able to obtain a Driver License but the license expired at the expiration of the 90 K1 visa. She cannot get the license reinstated until she does the legal name change because the work permit has her new married name. We cannot send original copies of her documents for two reasons: we could get word at any time our final green card interview has been scheduled and will need those documents. Also, our USPS mail carrier routinely loses or delivers mail to the wrong address. We cannot risk them losing her passport and work permit. Is there any way we can get this name change completed so she can drive again and work? Can I schedule an appointment just to show the documents without mailing or letting our local social security office keep them? Thank you

After learning I was automatically signed up for Medicare when I signed up for SS benefits, because I was over the age of 65, I filled out a request to withdraw my application for said benefits as I had been contributing to an HSA. So, before my request began processing, one check had automatically been deposited to my account. Instead of the SS administration automatically withdrawing those funds from my account, similarly as they had been deposited, I received a letter with instructions, and a special envelope, for me to mail in a check for that payment before my application for withdrawal could be processed. Several months have passed, and yet this check has not cleared, because, no one within the SS Administration is going into the office and getting the mail due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I wanted to sign back up for my SS benefit in July, but this application must first be processed. So, I’m left to wonder why someone cannot go into the office to retrieved mail, and/or, why the amount that was automatically deposited into my account be withdrawn. Am I to wait until such time as someone deems it safe for the SS offices to reopen before I can refile for my benefits? And, will I be penalized; that is; will my benefits be retroactive to July if the offices don’t open until sometime after July, and/or my application isn’t processed until a later date due to the offices being closed. Here I am working at a power plant to keep America’s lights on, but yet you all can’t even go in and pick up the mail.

    Hello,

When will social security offices open up? So many government organizations have opened up already and the services from the social security office is vital for Americans. I have several relatives who came on immigration earlier this year who are stuck in limbo because they still haven’t received the social security cards and therefore cannot be offered employment.

I’m hoping that you will open offices (with sensible precautions) to the public this week. Please update your website as to when the Social Security offices plans on reopening.

    Regards,

    Murtaza Shameem

I don’t understand why the state and federal agencies feels it’s fine that they closed their doors in every state. That’s ridiculous ?. The common people need to work to pay bills. Is the government enjoying their vacation! Open up, get out and work and help the people that need it! I was in the process of getting help from vocational Rehabilitation services. I was at the point where I was hoping to be finding the right job for me. Now, I’m only more in debt because my rent is 60% of my income. You live on that. Try living on $8.25/hr too. 35 years ago, at the age of 16, minimum wage was approximately $3.75/hr. That is 35+ YEARS AGO! Has the cost of living stagnated as much as minimum wage has? Absolutely and unequivocally – NO!

  9. CRYSTAL A.

I need a replacement social security card can I use my Medicade card cause my I’d was stolen from me?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Crystal, thank you for your question. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you may be able to apply online. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to apply for a replacement Social Security card. If you are unable to apply online and you do not want to mail in your documents, which will be returned, you may need to wait for the offices to reopen. Use our Social Security Office Locator to find your local office address. We hope this helps.

When will Bibb Co. Ga. SOC SEC offices open? The state of Georgia has seen fit to open everything. When can we finally get someone to answer phones locally? When can we come in for meetings local SOC SEC? If the government is so ready and willing to open, why not open? Or at least answer the phones
