I lost my card how can I have a copy

    • Ann C.

Hi, Serge. First, realize that you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing the Social Security number is what is important. To see if you’re eligible to apply for a replacement Social Security card online or to learn more on the process and what documents you will need to get a card please visit our Social Security Number and Card page. Keep in mind all submitted documents must be either originals or copies certified by the issuing agency and must (unless otherwise indicated) have been issued within the last two years. We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents. Once you’ve submitted all the needed documents, it can take up to 10 business days from the date we received the application to mail a replacement card. We hope this helps.

I am on social security and still working. I have athirtus in my back and working is getting very hard. my question is, if I quit working are there any benefits I would be eligable for?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Mary, thanks for using our blog. It depends on how old you are. If you have reached your full retirement age (Currently 66) and you’re receiving Social Security retirement, you are no longer eligible for disability benefits. If you’re under your full retirement age, you absolutely can apply for disability benefits.

If you have questions or want to apply, call us at 1-800-772-1213 or contact your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

My father passed away in Dec 2018 I am his only child and he was divorced at the time of his death. Do I qualify for survivors benefits?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Kimberly, we are very sorry for your loss. If your father worked long enough into Social Security, there may be certain family members eligible for survivor benefits on his record such as a spouse, divorced spouse, child and parents. If there are no eligible survivors, any unused money goes to the Social Security trust funds. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on who can get survivor benefits. We hope this helps!
