Hi Michael. Thanks for the question. If you’re receiving Social Security benefits (retirement, survivors, or disability), you can start or update your direct deposit information in by using your personal my Social Security account. See our Frequently Asked Questions web page for more information. If receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or unable to conduct business online, you can start or update your direct deposit by contacting the bank, credit union, or savings and loan association or by calling Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).

Before Trump stole the presidency, I was of the opinion that the former GOP, Grand Old Party, was in a death spiral and would become what I heard on NPR, a regional old White persons’ party. It is pushing away women, immigrants, minorities. Now ‘Rockefeller Republicans’ are unwelcome in the small tent which only wants born again bigots, white racists, and the white hoods. It is strange the white gay men have considered the Republican Party theirs, because they are upper class and have their rights. Now hermafrodites who make up 2% of babies born, those who are sexually ambiguous, are being attacked. In the past 37% were registered and held 47% of elected offices. Now it is shrinking below 30% and the congress is spineless which may put the icing on the cake. It appears the nation will go the way of California with Republicans unable to hold a state office and in the legislator face a super majority by the Democrats. Republicans saying ‘Democrat’ Party insult their opposition. With Trump he raised the swamp by bringing it into the West Wing. I am an economic conservative and a social liberal. There are conservative solutions to housing, bring those with HUD housing, into the middle class with a change in the program with ‘NO EXTRA COST TO THE FEDERAL BUDGET’. Conservative economic theories not compromised by profiteers work. You will see a big budget movie thats a coming of age action adventure story of the 21st Century Cowboys and Indians’ movie that shows how redeveloping South Central has 4 square miles redeveloped with the 70 odd thousand existing residents kept with schools, hospital, parol and probation offices on location, locals trained to fill from part to full time jobs at living wages of $20 per hour. As may be surmised, I am a successful writer but I won’t lie for anyone. Words are powerful for those who have the power to put them together that makes sense to those with closed minds. Switching enemies to friends and supporters is possible by not being vindictive, but supportive of those who have known no better. Showing them their self interest and not abandoning them is refreshing and takes time to build a loyal team or employees or volunteers. If whoever reads this, great writers, earn great amounts for their ‘work product’! I wish you well if you are one of the good people. BTW, the earth will never be overcrowded with the ‘good ones’! The world alway has too many takers, dishonest, and liars. The Democratic party should fall with the young voters taking the place of us old dying off generation.

If you are the divorced spouse of a worker who dies, you could get benefits the same as a widow or widower, provided that your marriage lasted 10 years or more.
You cannot apply for survivors benefits online. If you need to apply for benefits, call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778). You can speak to a Social Security representative between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also visit your local Social Security office. An appointment is not required, but if you call ahead and schedule one, it may reduce the time you spend waiting to speak to someone. Thanks!

I find these user friendly Social Security web pages difficult…. I only want to update my status I have tried many times to change and to somehow contact someone I can not figure any of this out….

Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Generally, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later during the day or later in the week. Thanks!

I live in California and have not received my new Medicare card.

Hi James. Medicare will automatically mail your new card to the address you have on file with Social Security. As long as your address is up to date, there’s nothing you need to do. Mailing millions of Medicare cards takes some time, so you might get your card at a different time than friends or neighbors in your area.
Visit Medicare.gov/NewCard and sign up to get email alerts from Medicare. Medicare will send you an email when cards start mailing in your state. Thanks!

I have been trying to access my social security information for over a year now. I come here from time to time when I receive an email and try to log into my account I am then told there is no account and to create one.
