  1. Patricia A.

Hi I’d like to know why I received a letter saying I’m not eligible for SSDi?. When I receive SSI I do know the difference. But should I ignore this notice?. I take it that it just meant I’m not eligible for any different type of benefits through SSA. I already had a phone review. I think they made a mistake about what benefits I receive. Now I’m wondering if I won’t get my SSI soon. Can you help please? Ty

    • Sue

I have a iPhone 14. When I scan the QR code at my local SSA office I get an “outdated browser” pop-up. I have current Safari and Chrome apps.
What settings do I need to have on my iPhone to get to mobile check-in? I have not located any help on the internet that resolves my issue.

    • Sue

We’re sorry to hear about your experience, Tracy. For information about Mobile Check-In Express, read our blog. We hope this helps.

The SSA website encourages you to schedule an appointment by calling the local office number.
However, when I called, the agent told me they do not schedule appointments over the phone and that I needed to come to the office.
When I came, there was a line of over 100 people.
I had to stand outside the office for 3 hours in the cold weather and still did not get in.

I spent a few hours trying to figure out how to schedule an appointment online, to no avail.

    • Sue

Can I send in copies of drivers License and Passport along with certified copies of court documents that show my name change. I am unable to go in person due to upcoming back surgery and not being able to drive.

    • Sue

Hi, Carol. Thanks for reading our blog and for your question. To change your name on your Social Security card, you must show us original or certified copies of the documents you’re using as evidence of your legal name change. You may prefer to wait on your name change until you can visit a Social Security office. When you’re ready to apply for the replacement card, you can start the process online at ssa.gov/number-card. For more information, check out our Your Social Security Number and Card publication.

I have been trying to get assistance with my on-line application for 2 weeks. It states my app was received & being reviewed on 10/26/2023. I mailed in my marriage certificate. I cannot get any update on the status of my app and my marriage certificate has not been returned. I have called several times and have been put on hold for 1-2 hours, but get disconnected every time prior to someone answering. How can I speak to a human being???
