  1. I have been trying to help my 88 year old mother re-establish her online account but can never succeed. Apparently, or so an SSA agent advised, this may be because of her age. The agent advised that she and I must go to a SSA office to do so. This is not convenient for us, particularly since we live in different cities. Is there some convenient way for us to accomplish this online?

How can I make an appointment to see an agent so I can establish an online account? What kinds of documents do I have to bring with me to the appointment. By the way, I tried to create an online account several times without success.

  7. If after reaching full retirement age and signing up and receiving monthly benefits, I continue to work at a good salary (even a better salary than most years before reaching full retirement age), which means I continue to make sizable deposits (both myself personally and my employer’s matching amounts)… Will my present monthly Social Security benefit be reviewed annually and adjusted upwards to reflect these additional deposits? If reviewed, will the review be automatic or do I need to request a review?

  14. Do I have to do anything to start drawing my social security? My full retirement is May 29. 2018. Thanks for any information

    • Hello Raymond. To receive your Social Security benefits, you must submit an application. There are different ways to apply for your benefits, including applying online.
Our system is set up to take applications three months in advance. Remember that benefits are paid the month after they are due. So, for instance, if you want your benefits to begin with the month of May, you will receive your first benefit payment in June. Please visit our Social Security Retirement Planner for more information.

  17. I am planning on Retiring from a federal job after 20 years 3 years from January 2019. I have a previous retirement from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts of 30%. I realize both retirement programs will be factored into my social security amount I will receive monthly. How can I obtain a realistic estimate for a monthly payment in order to plan?

  18. I live in Australia and my wife and I receive social security benefits and would like to use SS online and setup a MyAccount to do so. But…I read online at your site I cannot do so because we don’t have a US mail address. My question is, will you be setting up a site that will allow us to have a MyAccount in near future?
This would certainly be helpful for us and other US retirees overseas! Thank you and I look forward to your reply, Arthur Krieger

    • We are sorry for the inconvenience, Arthur. You’re right! The “my Social Security” authentication system requires address verification as one of the essential criteria for issuing an account. People with APO/FPO/DPO addresses can create an account overseas, but our system does not support registration and account creation for users with a foreign address yet. However, you do not need a U.S. address to access our website!
We recommend that individuals living outside the United States contact their local U.S. embassy or consulate for any assistance related to their Social Security benefits. Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad. Thanks.

  27. I have set up MyAccount with Social Security. My application for benefits was made in August 2018 – it is currently still “pending”. There is no area in My Account to send a message enquiring about payments. How do I do that? I am expecting SS benefits to begin in January 2019. But I need to know if there is any information or forms etc that need to be completed so there are no delays in the payment. Please let me know to whom I should address my question.
