I have a pending application for Part A Medicare fully due to me. It is confirmed received at Chicago. It is precisely clear. So today12/14 /2020 I get a letter “A transaction was recently attempted with your name…” demanding a response within ten days of the letter, i.e. tomorrow! or it will be cancelled. Scary. Bullshit , harsh phrasing. I need this before end of month.

I am trying to get a replacement card for my son who is under the age of 18. I understand the local SSA office is closed. I faxed a copy of the application to the number provided, but how can I verify it was received. There does not seem to be a way to track this. How long will this process take? Can you check it for me?
S.D.
Hi, Grant, thanks for reading our blog and for your question. Typically, after we receive your application for a replacement Social Security card and verify your documents, you should receive the card by mail within 10 business days. To follow up on your son’s case, call the office where you mailed the application. The documents you submitted must be originals or copies certified by the issuing agency. We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies. Any documents that you provided will be returned to you. To learn more about the Social Security replacement card process, take a look at our Social Security Number and Card web page. We hope this information is helpful.

S.D.
Thank you for your question, May, and for reading our blog. Congratulations to your son on becoming a U.S. citizen. He cannot update his citizenship status with Social Security online. Your son will need to update his Social Security record by showing us his Certificate of Naturalization and completing an SS-5 application for a corrected Social Security card. All submitted documents must be originals or copies certified by the issuing agency. We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents. Please visit our Social Security and Coronavirus web page. If you believe your son qualifies for an in-office appointment, call your local office. You’ll find the contact information using our online Social Security Office Locator. The SSA website doesn’t work and the one worker I wasted time on while on hold was useless. I am complaining to my representative, which might prove useless to.
