Been trying for months to set up my social security account, and sign up for benefits, am told “unable to verify”. Checked FAQ and it said that if I have a credit freeze SSA wouldn’t be able to verify, I temporarily removed the freeze, but it still asks qestions that I have to choose “none of the above” on them all, so SSA still cannot verify, then I have to wait 24 hours. I am unable to go to a local office as we are in the middle of the pandemic and orders from our President & govenor to “stay home”

If I fill out the application for SS retirement benefits but haven’t signed and submitted it yet , can it be cancelled ?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Ricky, thank you for using our blog to ask your question. A partially completed online retirement application establishes a protective filing date in case you change your mind later. You are protected as of the date you first completed the initial information screens (e.g., Applicant Identification, Contact Information, and Birth and Citizenship Information) and selected the “Next” button. The next page that appears in the path is the “Re-entry Number” screen, which provides you with the 6-month protective filing language. We hope this helps.

recieved a letter from ssa office that my monthly checks will be reduced to pay for medicare part a and b. was told to apply for medicade to assist with payments as the lowered amount will leave me with not enough to survive on. have tried calling local office. automated message said office was curently closed due to covid-19 but to stay on the line and an agent will be avialable to assist me with this matter.then goes to another message that says maybe they can help me but everytime i speak my response it does not understand and goes back to other options that do not help me at all or to call back during buisness hours. i am calling during business hours. have also tried the toll free number to ssa and get the same recorded messages that an agent would be able to assist me wwith this matter and then goes to a message that an agent is unaviable and to call back during business hours. have been trying for 2 days with the same results. very frustrating that the first message says that they can help me and to stay on the line and very next message says to call back during business hours. can anyone help me with this matter before my monthly benefits are reduced.

Hi Christopher, we are very sorry to hear about the difficulties you are experiencing in connecting with us and we understand your frustration. For assistance with Medicare premiums, you may want to check with the state. They administer services such as Medicaid, free meals, housekeeping help, transportation or help with other problems. You can get information about services in your area from your state or local social services office. You can also visit the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) web page for more information. We hope this information helps.

Hello, I successfully submitted my Retirement Benefit Application today. Thank you, it was pretty straightforward.

However, on the MySocial Security page, there is no Benefit Application tab that I can access to confirm status or updates for progress of my application. I have accessed the website in different ways, without any success. I did however receive an email confirmation that my application was received. I also tried to access as a saved application using the confirmation/reentry number I received but this also failed.

Can you help? All I can think of is perhaps there is a delay until the application status function appears?

    Thank you.

    • Vonda V.

Hi Robert, thank you for using our blog. Once you are logged in to your my Social Security account, select “My Home” from the tabs and then you would go to the “Your Benefit Applications” section to review the available list of applications and general information. If this is not present, please give the site some time to update. We hope this helps.

Why will my application not process when i hit the summary and sign tab?

  9. Caroline H.

I finished my application. Everything looks great on the “Overall Summary, Review” page. But there is no way to move on from there to sign and submit. My only choices are “Previous” or “Save and Exit” which takes me out of the application. There is no “Next.” What to do? Thanks.

    • Vonda V.

Hi Caroline. Sorry to hear you are having difficulties with the online application. On the Overall Summary page, at the very bottom, there should be a box to check for your electronic signature before clicking Submit. If you continue to experience difficulties, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 for assistance or you can contact your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. Hope this is helpful.

I just finished submitting my application to start drawing my Retirement benefit. But after submitting, I was told I needed to submit 2019 W-2 and statement from employer my current earnings so far this year. No address given. Due t the COViD-19 virus, LOCALoffices are closed. Where do I send these documents ?
