    On 2 occasions over 2 days I’ve been locked out of trying to open a My Account because the system appears to claim I am not me.
    I see similar issues posted above.
    These coronavirus times are difficult and need to apply for my social security to get by. Little things like rent and food.
    Your offices are closed and your on-line system is a failure.
    Need suggestions as to how to apply for my ss if the system has locked me out and your offices are closed until who knows when.

      Hi Jack. We are sorry to hear about the difficulties you are having in creating a my Social Security account.

      Even though you are unable to create a my Social Security account, you may still file for benefits online. You can apply online for retirement benefits if you:
      •are at least 61 years and 9 months old;
      •are not currently receiving benefits on your own Social Security record;
      •have not already applied for retirement benefits; and
      •want your benefits to start no more than 4 months in the future. (We cannot process your application if you apply for benefits more than 4 months in advance.)

    I am trying to create a MySocialSecurity account and each time I try, I fail the verification questions and get locked out/suspended. Look, I do not have a mortgage and never have. I do not have a car loan/lease and never have. I have never had a bank card at any of the banks listed. I have never lived on any of the streets listed. I have never owned any of the phone numbers listed. The answer to all the questions is None of the Above and apparently this is incorrect…?

    So many people are complaining about the same thing. One trick question I can understand, but screwing with people like this – making all the questions false and then punishing users for answering truthfully – is really unacceptable.

    What source of information is the SSA basing these questions on?

    I do not recall setting up an account before but I did try the Forgot Username? link and used every email address I’ve ever had to see if I could get in that way, but none of my email addresses were recognized, indicating that I do not have an already-existing account.

    I tried calling 1-800-772-1213 and it is now for emergencies only. Is there a way to resolve this issue at this time?

    • Vonda V.

      Hi Rachael. We are very sorry to hear about the difficulties you are having in creating a my Social Security account. We apologize for the inconvenience. You may need to wait for the offices to reopen for assistance. Again, we certainly do apologize for the inconvenience.
