I received a reset code but not sure where to enter it as they keep asking me for my password which I can’t remember that why I requested a reset code

    • Vonda V.

Hi Cloyette, thanks for using our blog. If you no longer have access to the second factor (cell phone or email address) on your account, and you need to change the second factor, you then can request a reset code online. The system will mail a reset code letter to the address on file. You then enter this reset code online, after signing in with your username and password, to change the second factor associated with your information. If you forgot your password, and the password reset questions didn’t work, we can send a temporary password in some circumstances. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to retrieve or change your username or password. We hope this helps.

How do I get a activation code to complete my account?
It says to enter the one I received but the only number I received was the verfication code and it would not take that as the activation code
    Thank you

    • Vonda V.

Hi Meg, thanks for using our blog. You receive an activation code when you visit a local Social Security office for assistance. A representative in the office verifies your identity and issues you a letter containing an activation code. You then use the activation code to complete the creation of your my Social Security account. Select “Finish Setting Up Your Account” and enter the information requested, including the account activation code. If you are trying to create a my Social Security account, click on Create an Account. Hopefully this helps.

I’m trying to open an account, but the registration gets stuck at the middle initial – I don’t have a middle name – what can I do?

  7. Robert E.

I already have a Social Security My Account, but somehow the username got truncated and was reduced to just ‘SR’. This has blocked my access. I then followed the procedure to get a code sent by mail to reset my password and user name.

I received a nice letter back with a ‘reset code’ and instructions to use it. However, the SSA site asks for an ‘activation code’ and does not accept the reset code, but says it is invalid. So now I am back where I started with no access to the SSA My Account site.

I really need access to the SSA website to apply for the burial benefit for my recently deceased wife. The local Social Security office is closed due to the Covid-19 lock down.

Thank you in advance for your help in resolving this situation. I am not sure how much more time I have before the deadline runs out on making application for the burial allowance.

    Respectfully,
    Robert Muise
