All local Social Security offices will be closed to the public for in-person service starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020. This decision protects the population we serve—older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions—and our employees during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, we are still able to provide critical services.

Please read our press release to learn more, including how to get help from the Social Security Administration by phone and online. You can also visit our website to learn more and stay up to date.

My husband receives SSDI, He starts getting his SSDI in 2011. he has direct deposit. He has not filed a tax return in more than 7 years. Will he get the covid-19 check? We don’t have children age 17 or younger.
Myself on the other hand are unemployed now for about 4 years. Talking care of my husband. I did care for my grandkids for about 5 years. Threw the childcare program. I didn’t file taxes. Didn’t make enough money to file. I did file taxes in 2011. with my other job. I filed head of house hold. Will I get a covid-19 check?

Hi Lisa, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May.

In regards to the questions about yourself, please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments Information Center to answer your questions about eligibility, payment amounts, what to expect, when to expect it and more. You may also find the IRS Online Tool Guide helpful to determine what action you may need to take. Hopefully this information is helpful.

My name is Rebecca peck I receive SSI.ide like to apply for the stimuouse child credit 2083802823

  4. Migna

Will this money from the stimulus check count against us who are on early retirement that have a limit on our income? In other words, will it make us go over our limit or is it excused. I always make it under by about $400 but I’m afraid that this will make me go over. Thanks

    • Vonda V.

Thank you for the question, Migna. If you’re receiving Social Security retirement or survivors benefits, only earned income such as your wages or net income from self-employment, affect your benefits. If receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the economic impact payments are not considered income and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months. We hope this helps.

I get social security on my direct Express when are we going to receive are stimulus money

        • Vonda V.

Hi Carmen, thank you for your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the irs.gov/coronavirus page for updates.
