All local Social Security offices will be closed to the public for in-person service starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020. This decision protects the population we serve—older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions—and our employees during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, we are still able to provide critical services.

Please read our press release to learn more, including how to get help from the Social Security Administration by phone and online. You can also visit our website to learn more and stay up to date.

    When will your offices reopen?

I have not received my check I get direct deposit I am on ssi and ss

    • Vonda V.

Hi Vada, thank you for your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the irs.gov/coronavirus page for updates.

    Hi,
I receive Social Security Survivors Benefits from my late husband, and likewise my out 12 year old son receives a Social Security Survivors Benefits payment as well. I was told by H&R Block that because SS is my only source of income I don’t need to file taxes. Is this true? Also in regards to the Stimulus payment, would my son be considered a qualifying child? Thank you in advance for your help.

    Thank you & God Bless,
    Amy

I am getting confused as to the direct deposit guideline? if you are receiving ssa benefits it will go by your having direct deposit for your benefits. There is information saying it goes by you filing taxes 2018-19? We have done 2018 but, 2019 we are getting done today. So a little bit of confusion as to which one is the “actual” guidelines? we have tried to check through the IRS website as well only to go around in circles for accuracies.
    Thanks 😉

Will I recieve the 1200 dollar stimulus check from the IRS as I’m a retired on Social Security now living in Puerto Rico. I have a Direct Express card?

  7. Benjamin G.

Will there be another 1,200$ check issued after the first one through a second stimulus bill ??? I was under the impression they’re already working on passing the fifth stimulus bill.. I know they’re not the same as the first 2.2 trillion dollar stimulus package. But I heard that would be a second one maybe even the third one, is there any truth to this ??.

I am concerned about the current conditions. Where the impact of the corona virus has paralyzed the world economy, even I have to take time off work from Jasa Sablon Kaos and spend a lot of time just at home. hopefully the corona virus outbreak will end soon and we can work again to meet our daily needs. Thank you for the information, I hope you and we are all given health.

  9. NORA G.

I get SSA and the website keeps saying that it needs to get my direct deposit information from social security. how long does it take to make a telephone call. My bills are getting further behind and I keep getting telephone calls concerning my bills. So I wish that someone from the treasury office would tell us when we will get our stimulus checks

    • Vonda V.

Hi Nora, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

Thank you, Ms. van Til! 🙂

        • Dolores R.

I would just like to know when will we be receiving the Stimulus Payment??

        • Jody

When will the stimulus checks be mailed

    • SMH

Considering you still you got your regular SSA deposit, how did you not pay your bills, did you buy $500 worth of toilet paper.. Just wondering because people are complaining about not paying bills even though they received a regular payment?

      • Kim

Many senior citizens and people on disability work. If they’ve lost that source of income, then they are having trouble paying their bills, if they don’t have savings.

      • Abbe P.

TAXI FARES for this disabled veteran with no car has risen SHARPLY due to limits on food imposed upon me by grocery store, thereby necessitating many more taxi rides. Taxis do not take food stamps, SmartassHM

To Whomever is managing this page:
You wasted an entire page allowing this idiot conversation when you could have just answered the question. Why in God’s name would you allow something like this to happen when REAL people need REAL answers to serious questions.
