Commissioner of Social Security Shares Update about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments for Beneficiaries
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: February 21, 2023
“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.
The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.
Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.
For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.
Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:
We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

I’m on ssdi I just wish they would tell us if it will go on our direct express card or not. Because I don’t have a bank account. And alot of us get our monthly benifits this way.
William
They need to just do this automatically for recipients of all forms of social security. They already know who is and is not on S.S.I., etc.. Why make things more difficult for vulnerable people? True patriots help their less fortunate fellow citizens.

Okay so I need a direct answer to this question me and my mother-in-law both have been watching the news and monitoring the stimulus package but our question at hand is if you’ve collected social security meaning social security supplement income do you qualify for one of the $1,200 checks
Welp
Social security as of now will get direct deposit. SSI is being sorted out at moment they are trying to tell the Treasury to set up direct deposit for us as well. Go to the top of this page the info is literally right therem
Kari
Some senators are fighting for you.I think they wrote a letter just like they did for us.

I get ssdi and have 3 dependent children. How will that work?
Betty
From what i am seeing on irs website ssdi and ssi will get the 1,200 but won’t get the $500 for thier kids due to them not knowing your dependant info from your information they are going to get from social security the tax papers at the end of the year which doesn’t make sense cause social security knows what dependants you have
B
Why don’t they give us $200.00 raise. Raise the resource limit to $6000.00. $1200.00 doesn’t even cover rent.

Read article written by Kyle Pomerleau of “THE AMERICAN ENTERPRISE”. He explains that the stimulus payment(s) are merely an ADVANCED PAYMENT which will be deducted from tax refunds (IRS Tax Refunds for year 2020 year taxes). So, those lower income workers who depend on those tax refunds yearly will see any stimulus payment deducted from their tax refunds next year in 2021. I wish this was not true. As a 74 year old, living on social security, I do not get a refund because I do not pay any income taxes throughout the year. But for those that do get a refund due to overpaying income tax or because of the EARNED INCOME Credit due to low income and/or having child(ren) – they are the losers. The Media is not talking about this because they want to wait until right before the elections in November and then discredit President Trump and Republicans. Get the word out and contact your Congressman/woman and U.S. Senators and try talking to your local TV station and/or newspaper – they don’t want to discuss it right now. I wish I was wrong. I am going to the IRS website and see if this is being addressed as yet. Good luck, ALL.
