Coming Soon: Improved Check Your Application or Appeal Status Service
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: November 3, 2023
In December, Social Security will launch a new service for my Social Security account holders where the public can check on the status of an application for benefits or an appeal filed with us.
The service will provide detailed information about retirement, disability, survivors, Medicare, and Supplemental Security Income claims and appeals filed either online on our website or with a Social Security employee.
The ability to check your application status will be available online to everyone who has or opens a secure personal my Social Security account. You can open an account on our website.
The service will provide important information about your claim or appeal, including, as appropriate:
- Date of filing.
- Current claim location.
- Scheduled hearing date and time.
- Incomplete applications.
- Servicing office location.
- Claim or appeal decision.
If you are unable to open a personal my Social Security account, you can still call 1-800-772-1213 to check your claim status by using our automated system using the confirmation number you received when you filed your claim.
Providing our customers with more claim status information helps us meet our goal of delivering innovative, quality services to you and helping secure today and tomorrow.

I tried to check the status of my Medicare application. I have an account. I was getting the code 4 times. Every time I typed it in and every time I was rejected. What is wrong with checking my status? Thank you

I am handling my husband’s appeal process, as he can not do so. I always have trouble getting to check his status. The questions have to do with credit lines and closed accounts that I am not familiar with – only he would have been, but he does not remember information like this. Is there an easier way to check his status using the 8 digit code that I was given. Please help.

I received letter of my statement. It has a error on my ex’s birthdate. Should be 8/16/54.
Also received another letter that says I am not eligible for SSI. Not sure what this is. My status says approved. I’m confused.
