Coming Soon: Improved Check Your Application or Appeal Status Service

woman on laptopIn December, Social Security will launch a new service for my Social Security account holders where the public can check on the status of an application for benefits or an appeal filed with us.

The service will provide detailed information about retirement, disability, survivors, Medicare, and Supplemental Security Income claims and appeals filed either online on our website or with a Social Security employee.

The ability to check your application status will be available online to everyone who has or opens a secure personal my Social Security account. You can open an account on our website.

The service will provide important information about your claim or appeal, including, as appropriate:

  • Date of filing.
  • Current claim location.
  • Scheduled hearing date and time.
  • Incomplete applications.
  • Servicing office location.
  • Claim or appeal decision.

If you are unable to open a personal my Social Security account, you can still call 1-800-772-1213 to check your claim status by using our automated system using the confirmation number you received when you filed your claim.

Providing our customers with more claim status information helps us meet our goal of delivering innovative, quality services to you and helping secure today and tomorrow.

      Hello Wendy, if you are unable to create an account or encounter a problem with your my Social Security account, you may:
      •Call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. At the voice prompt, say “helpdesk”; or
      •Contact your local Social Security office. Thanks!

    The “my social security” account is a joke. My wife applied for retirement benefits 3 months ago and the status always says “Processing.” Step 2 of 3, Benefit Application Pending.” You’d think you wouldn’t have to wait to see if money was deposited in the bank to find out if your application was approved.
    How is this “Improved Check Your Application or Appeal Status Service?!”

    This process needs an upgrade. As an appointed representative for several claimants, I absolutely dread trying to check on the status of their claims. It takes too long. I get asked some very obscure security questions that I cannot find anywhere in order to prepare the answers and are NOT a part of the application I filled out for the claimant. Another example of a bloated government agency wasting tax payer dollars without providing any service!

    I received my new confirmation numberI dated 5/23/18. I tried to log in with my new confirmed number on 5/30/18 in response to Work History Report and was denied access.
    Should I fill it out and mail it in?
