you know where to find usFor 80 years, Social Security has been there for you and your family when you need us most. And, finding us at our field offices, where you can speak with an employee face-to-face, is easier than ever!

Our handy Field Office Locator is accessible from your computer and mobile device. On the website, you can enter your zip code to find the address, phone number and hours of the Social Security office closest to you. You can also use this tool to see a map and get directions; if you’re on your mobile device, it will even give you turn-by-turn directions.

Since you are already online, you could skip the traffic and lines by taking advantage of our other online features, too. Check out What You Can Do Online, where you’ll find that many of our services are just a click away!

For example, you use the Retirement Estimator to estimate future benefits, apply for Social Security benefits online and sign up for a personal my Social Security account. Setting up a personal my Social Security account is convenient and secure. You’ll have access to your Social Security Statement, and if you already receive benefits, you can view and print your verification letter and manage your benefits.

Some people prefer doing business in person, though, and that’s why our offices are there! Our employees are passionate about providing you with the best service possible, and we’re proud of our long history of doing so. When you visit us, whether in person or online, we’re always ready to help!

I want to make an appointment at my local SS office. This website was not helpful. I tried the phone number (800 771-1213 and there is no way to contact the local office there either.

  4. Rayelenn S.

Nowhere in this site can I find ANY way to make an appointment. I see you say you are l”passionate” about serving customers and also that you understand some people just prefer to do things face to face in person. The site also says hat it’s better to make an appointment because if one is a walk-in, one might have to wait a long time. It nowhere can I find any way to make an appointment. And every time I call I get a message saying that the wait time will be over an hour. HKW do I make an appointment to be see personally?

    • Ann C.

Hi, Rayelynn. We’re sorry that you had difficulty reaching someone by phone. We may have been experiencing higher than normal call volume. You do not have to make an appointment to come in to our offices, but with an appointment, you will be helped before our walk-in customers. You can schedule an appointment with your local office by calling us at 1-800-772-1213 between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and a representative will assist you. In most cases, you can handle your business by phone. You can also contact your local Social Security office.

Also, through our Blog, we respond to questions and provide general information on our Retirement, Survivors, Disability, Medicare and SSI programs. If you have a general question, we encourage you to ask here. But remember, never post personal information on social media. You can also create a personal my Social Security account to get estimates of your retirement, disability, and survivors benefits, and review your earnings record and the estimated Social Security and Medicare taxes you’ve paid. We hope this helps!

I have been unable to locate a telephone number or location to establish a date and time for a personal review of my wife and my current social security payments. I have been advised by other SS participants that our monthly benefit payments may be understated. Please provide a telephone number for me to talk to a live person to establish an appointment with a knowledgeable staff member of the US Social Security Administration – Myrtle Beach, SC Office.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    • Ray F.

Hello John. To make an appointment with your local office, you can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Generally, you will experience a shorter wait time when you call later during the day or later in the week.
