you know where to find usFor 80 years, Social Security has been there for you and your family when you need us most. And, finding us at our field offices, where you can speak with an employee face-to-face, is easier than ever!

Our handy Field Office Locator is accessible from your computer and mobile device. On the website, you can enter your zip code to find the address, phone number and hours of the Social Security office closest to you. You can also use this tool to see a map and get directions; if you’re on your mobile device, it will even give you turn-by-turn directions.

Since you are already online, you could skip the traffic and lines by taking advantage of our other online features, too. Check out What You Can Do Online, where you’ll find that many of our services are just a click away!

For example, you use the Retirement Estimator to estimate future benefits, apply for Social Security benefits online and sign up for a personal my Social Security account. Setting up a personal my Social Security account is convenient and secure. You’ll have access to your Social Security Statement, and if you already receive benefits, you can view and print your verification letter and manage your benefits.

Some people prefer doing business in person, though, and that’s why our offices are there! Our employees are passionate about providing you with the best service possible, and we’re proud of our long history of doing so. When you visit us, whether in person or online, we’re always ready to help!

  5. ROCHELLE A.

    Using the 800-number to try to make an appointment at my local office is time consuming and frustrating! After hearing the long messages, answering irrelevant questions and repeating for the voice-bot over and over, I was then told my wait time was 55 minutes OR I could get a callback in 2 hours! I only want to make an appointment, not spend the day on this.
    Why are local office numbers unpublished?

    • V.V.

      Hi Rochelle. We’re sorry that you had difficulty reaching someone by phone. We may have been experiencing higher than normal call volume. Generally, when calling our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later during the day or later in the week. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

      Remember, many services, including applying for retirement, disability and Medicare benefits, requesting a replacement Medicare card, or reporting a change of address are conveniently available anytime at our website. When you use your personal my Social Security account, you can click on “Ask a Question” or “Talk to an Expert” for a call back. We hope this helps!

  6. Janet D.

    I’m trying to make an appointment online to visit my local SSA office and can’t find out how to do it. I used to do this years ago and can’t figure it out now.

    • R.F.

      Hello Janet. We currently do not have an online appointment scheduler. However you do not need an appointment to file for benefits or appeal a disability decision. You can file for the following benefits online:
      Retirement;
      Medicare;
      Spouses; and
      Disability.
      If you do not want to apply for benefits online, or you need to speak to us for any other reason, you can schedule, reschedule or cancel an appointment by:
      •Calling us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday; or
      •Contacting your local Social Security office. Thanks!

  7. Mary A.

    Hello…my name is Mary Ann Westmark. I need to make an appointment at a local office as I have questions about enrolling my disabled son, as well as defering my own part B….I live in St Petersburg Fl 33716 I would prefer first morning…8*am due to my job

    • R.F.

      Hello Mary Ann. We currently do not have an online appointment scheduler. Some of our local offices do offer walk-in appointments; however, these appointments are on a first come, first serve basis. You can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 and speak to a Social Security representative between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
      An appointment is not required, but if you call ahead and schedule one, it may reduce the time you spend waiting to speak to someone. It will also establish “protective filing” and prevent any loss of benefits for your son.
      If you are talking about termination of your Medicare Part B, our policy requires a personal interview be conducted with everyone who wants to terminate their Medicare Part B benefits. Representatives at the local Social Security office will help you submit the required Form CMS-1763, “Request for Termination of Premium Hospital and /or Supplementary Medical Insurance”, or your signed request for termination, but we need to speak to you personally before we terminate your Medicare benefits to be sure that you fully understand the consequences of doing so.
      Generally when calling our toll free number, you will experience a shorter wait time when you call later during the day or later in the week. Thanks!

      We hope this helps.

  8. Paul P.

    I am trying to schedule an appointment with a Social Security representative.

    • R.F.

      Hello Paul. Some of our local offices do offer walk-in appointments; however, these appointments are on a first come, first serve basis. Remember, most Social Security services do not require a visit to a local office.
      Many services, including applying for retirement, disability or Medicare benefits, signing up for direct deposit, replacing a Medicare card, obtaining a proof of income letter or informing us of a change of address or telephone number are conveniently available at our website or by dialing our toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213 between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Generally, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later during the day or later in the week.
      We hope this information helps.

      You can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 and speak to a Social Security representative between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. An appointment is not required, but if you call ahead and schedule one, it may reduce the time you spend waiting to speak to someone.
