Earlier this week, The White House issued national guidance regarding Opening Up America Again. We are evaluating this information as it relates to our agency and are continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation across the nation. In fulfilling Social Security’s mission, when we reopen offices to the public, we will provide a safe environment for both the people we serve and our employees.

As we continue to develop our plans, our offices will remain closed to the public for face-to-face service, and our employees will continue to work remotely and provide services to the public. We will provide updates moving forward and post updated information on the status of our offices, by state, at our website. Our agency will provide these updates directly, and please disregard other sources of information regarding the status of our offices.

We will continue to provide the vital service the public relies on. Please visit our website for more information about our services during the pandemic.

I applied for Social Security benefits a year ago! I was denied and I filed an appeal February 20, 2020! I have since moved to another address and I’m waiting for an answer from my appeal! How is the covid 19 going to affect my benefits! I’m in need of my benefits because I’m still unable to work! Please let me know what I need to do!
    Thank you! Randy Jones

I have been trying to get my son’s social security card replaced and with you all wanting original documents is messed up. I will not mail in my driver’s license that is stupid. You need to fix this problem or change you policy on original documents.

This is so frustrating! I called ahead of time to see what I needed to send for name change due to divorce. They told me a doctors signature on Doctor’s LETTERHEAD stating that I was their patient with date of birth. (I couldn’t mail in my license for them to view and be without it for about month so this was the substitute document I was told to use.)
8 weeks later it is denied due to the signature not being a “inked” signature! I work at a school and have returned with SAFE measures. I tried to call as the notice said to disagree and received a recording directing me to your web site. Please open up even with scheduled appts. for safety. I’m so frustrated since I did what your representative said to do. He didn’t state it had to be an “inked” signature vs a doctor’s stamped signature. I even sent the decree where the Magistrate had granted my name change. Both names were listed on a certified copy from the court! Really, again very frustrated!!

Hello, I live in Henderson, NV and I have a ongoing issue covering almost two months now with my local SS office. I retired on 7/1/20, faxed in required paperwork on 7/1/20 for my medicare to start on 9/1/20, I still had employee medical insurance coverage through 8/31/20. I received notification in July that someone imputed me to start medicare in July and not on September,1 as stated on my paperwork. Since then I have been charged $1286 in back due premiums that have been deducted from my social security check and another notice came that said they will deduct $497 more in September from my August SS check. I have talked to multiple reps at SS at my local office who can’t explain to my this is happening. Finally in the middle of August a rep said she was on my case, she said she can’t understand why I am be charged for past due premiums because you don’t owe anything. I have confirmed with medicare that I don’t owe any past due premiums, they said their records show no past due premiums owed on my account. The most frustrating part of this experience is that I have never been able to talk to a supervisor or a manager so they can explain to me what is going on or how I am going to get my money back. The one person that said they were on my account told me to wait until one week before the end of August before I resubmit my medicare part B application. I faxed that in on 8/20/2020, I called the Henderson office on 8/24/2020 but they didn’t have any record of it being sent as of yet………..The bottom line is, I am going to have approx. $1600.00 subtracted from my SS checks by the middle of September for a mistake someone made at SS and they can’t give me a answer for why it happened, Why???? And right now I don’t know if I’m going to have health insurance going into September because I have no confidence in the Henderson, NV office. There are so many more details to this story that i would be typing for hours, I have had so many phone calls with reps who push me off on to other reps who i have explain it over again, spent too much money faxing them paperwork. I just want it fixed. This is not how I imagined spending the first two moths of retirement stressing over something as simple as sending in two forms for medicare.

Please help me apply for my first Social Security card, I am a permanent resident .I have a letter from my employer waiting to give me a job, he won’t be waiting for me forever and I need a Social Security number to work.To this day I am waiting for a call from my my local Social Security office, although I was supposedly put on the waiting list as my case is dire need but it didn’t happen.I called so many times but only heard that if you didn’t hear from us you have to call us back so I did but still nothing. It has been going on since the beginning of July, still waiting that someone will call me from the social security number office, but I am trying to settle the matter from March.

    • A.C.

Hi, Agnieszka. We are sorry to hear about your experience. For your security, we do not have access to private information in this venue. Please continue to work with your local office. You can ask to speak to a manager on your next call. We hope this is resolved soon.

Though we all understand the need for health and safety measures, if the DMV can take appointments in person with everyone wearing mask then why can the social security offices not by now? In the offices, here in Myrtle Beach, the employees are already separated by glass and partitions which keep customers apart. But no this is only for those who do not already have a number, though it does not say so on the sign clearly posted on the door. At least simple task like reissuing cards or doing name changes(which can not be done mind you over the internet or over the phone). Though you have the option of mailing it in, when I spoke with a representative on the phone I was instructed this is not what we should be doing since you will have my id and marriage license for 2-3 weeks and they will probably get lost in the mail. I’m an essential worker so I completely understand precautions need to be taken but being closed to the public since april is insane for those of us who have to keep moving on with our lives, we still have our daily lives to live.
