Earlier this week, The White House issued national guidance regarding Opening Up America Again. We are evaluating this information as it relates to our agency and are continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation across the nation. In fulfilling Social Security’s mission, when we reopen offices to the public, we will provide a safe environment for both the people we serve and our employees.

As we continue to develop our plans, our offices will remain closed to the public for face-to-face service, and our employees will continue to work remotely and provide services to the public. We will provide updates moving forward and post updated information on the status of our offices, by state, at our website. Our agency will provide these updates directly, and please disregard other sources of information regarding the status of our offices.

We will continue to provide the vital service the public relies on. Please visit our website for more information about our services during the pandemic.

I have entered into the US as a permanent resident since the 17 March I was assured by my immigration lawyer that all necessary documents were filled but still I have not received my SSN When will it be delivered?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Leslie, thanks for using our blog. For your security, we do not have access to private information in this venue. You can call us at 1-800-772-1213 for assistance or you can contact your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

My wife and I got married 2 months ago. She wishes to change her last name to mine. Apparently this must be done in person. You must change this to be do-able on line…..or REOPEN your offices. Everyone else is reopening….going back to work YOU ARE NO BETTER THAN THE REST OF US. Any one who does not wish to come back is freeto resign….hire new people. Plenty of us looking for jobs.

I am trying to get my son a replacement social sucuriy card so he can go in the marine corp online is not working so they tell me he has to send in his actual drivers licence witch will be making it illegal for him to drive plz help

    • Vonda V.

Hi Blake, thanks for using our blog. If your son cannot request a replacement card online, and he doesn’t want to mail in his documents, he can call his local Social Security office and request that we mail you an SSN printout instead of a replacement Social Security card. We are unable to process replacement Social Security card requests by phone at this time.

SSA still being closed for in person services is ridiculous! I’ve been married for over a month now and would really like to have my name changed but I can’t since I must do it face to face! Please hurry up and open them up! There is no reason for them to be shut down still!

My parents need to apply for SSN. I called SS office here at Victorville CA and the worker told me to send original documents (passports and green cards) and they would process my parent’s SSN. I sent in the documents. After two weeks I called and the officer said they are processing the applications and will receive SS cards within two weeks. Another two weeks went by I called again for an update on the SS cards. This time a different officer said they are unable to process the applications and was told to wait until the office open for face to face service. I’m at a lost because someone working in there is not telling the truth or doesn’t know what is what? One told to send it in and they would process and another said they won’t. I personally think someone working at this office is not performing their job. I would like to know at least as to when the SS office at my location will open. Please I need to know because my parents kept on asking.

Here, they answer for every question except for one. If anyone says they have a serious problem and that can be solved by visiting office, they simple say that our offices are closed for public. We need to open for public itself guys come on. I never wanted to put out harsh statements but I have to do it now. We are in a very problematic situation and we need new SSNs. Please take measures, limit the number of appointments and allow people to live their lives. Do not answer the same for this post please. If you have any update on reopening let us know. You will be saving many wishes and lives of people if you really open the office with precautions.
