Social Security Administration LogoI’m excited that, starting in early April, we will add more in-person appointments and offer in-person service for people without an appointment.

During the pandemic, millions of people used our secure and convenient online services, and received help by phone and in our offices by appointment. For people who can access our services online or by phone, we ask that they continue to do business with us online or by phone and schedule an appointment, when possible, which will better allow us to timely serve people who cannot use those options.

I invite you to visit our website to learn:

  • The best ways to get help from Social Security.
  • What you should know before you visit a Social Security office, so we can help you safely.
  • Innovative options that could help you have your hearing sooner if you are appealing a decision.

We are committed to helping as many people as possible as safely as possible.

  3. Radu M.

    Hello,
My name is Radu M and I am a retired American citizen receiving SSBenefits. also I have Medicare part B. Recently I moved oversea in Germany. Now I need to cancel Medicare part B as here is not valid. I tried everything to contact SSA here in Frankfurt (by e-mail) or embassy but I get no answer. I look everywhere on SSA administration but could not find how to cancel Medicare. I tried to contact SSA by phone but it is impossible, after waiting on call for more than 1 hour I give up. I tried to contact SSA for international branch but they do not answer and advised me to call internal SSA. so as you can see I am in a circle that I cannot brake. So please help me with that, I am desperate and do not know what to do. I became more afraid reading the mail from Despina. She has the same problem like me but at least she received (or downloaded!?) the Form. Can you please help me with the Form?

Hi. In Feb, we adopted our 15 year old foster daughter who lost her father at age 5 and was receiving survivor benefits before being taken into DHR custody in 2020. Soon after we started fostering her, her mother also died. So now, we’ve been trying since FEBUARY to get a hold of anyone here locally but it just puts you on hold for 20 mins then says it’s trying again, just rings & rings for a good 5 mins, then hangs up on you. Every. Single. Time. Beyond frustrating. It is very important that we get her social security number updated with her new name after the adoption but also ensure she’s getting the survivor benefits she deserves. Please will someone – anyone – contact us? We can’t update her Medicaid, her medical info, insurance – nothing until we get her ss# updated. How can we do that if your offices are closed & nobody answers the phone?

    • Patti F.

It is ridiculous how long you have to be on hold! Our local office averages about 55 minutes every time we call! Who can hang on that long. If you leave a message, no one calls back…..ever! Some system!

  7. Carol C.

have not received SS in 28 months. Congressman’s office as well as me….we are told hearing is pending. I don’t need a hearing. I need the backpay. You are withholding Medicare, yet cancelled Medicare for non payment. 2020 and 2021 SSA 1099 reflect withholding.

    • A.C.

I am in the same situation like you because I moved to Germany and cannot cancel the Medicare part B. At least I can see you get a Form for that. Please can you e-mail me the form, or tell me what form it is and where should be send?
      Thanks a lot.

Is there a date when the offices reopen so I can schedule PTO? In 5 months I have only been able to talk to someone in the Manassas VA office 1 time and he told me a letter with an appt would be sent within 2 weeks, here we are 2 months later no appt, no letter, no one answering the phone, and I have a step-parent adopted child who is going to need an id for a school trip which we can’t get without his updated ss card.
