The IRS has birthdate incorrect and I talked to a representative from the IRS and she said that they get their information from the Social Security Administration. How can I correct my birthdate online?

    • V.V.

Hi Wanda, thank you for your question. To correct your date of birth on your Social Security record, you will need to apply for a replacement Social Security card by visiting your local office with required documentation. All documents must be either originals or certified copies. You will need to provide evidence of your age (for example, a U.S. public birth certificate) and current documentation for evidence of identity. See Learn What Documents You Need for a list of acceptable identity documents.

  4. Carol H.

My mother passed away in 2005, I still have her social security card, what is the best way to dispose of it?

    • V.V.

Thanks for your question, Carol. If you are unsure of how to dispose the Social Security card, you can return it to Social Security. Any returned Social Security cards are immediately destroyed to protect a person’s private information.

Am I able to download the form to have taxes withdrawn before my automatic deposit?
If not, can it be sent to me?
    Thank you!

I have called and can not get through to the help desk. I am trying to sign into my account and forgotten my password. How can I get help online please? I was given my username from the online service, but when I tried to get my password with the username you provided, it wouldn’t accept it. I would like to get into my account please and am feeling unable to contact your office in any way. Please help.

I was told that I cannot renew my retired Military I D card until I answer a question about Medicare. They say I was to receive a letter from you asking a question about Medicare. I have NO idea what they are talking about. The U.S. Counsel in Frankfurt says that they have no idea either. I am to retire at the end of August 2019. I need to know what´s going on?

    • A.C.

Hi, Neil. You may want to contact the organization that issues your Military ID Card to determine exactly what you need. If you need a replacement Medicare card or immediate proof that you have Medicare, you can take care of both online by setting up a personal my Social Security account. Thanks.
