This is a lot of crap from SS. I go thru all the trouble of creating an account an get a message I can’t get a replacement card online. SS – one of those S’s stands for SUCKS.

Hi CP. Please remember that knowing your number is what is important. You will rarely need to show your card. That said, if you must obtain a Social Security card and the State in which you live is not yet participating in the electronic Social Security replacement card, please go to here to find out what you need to obtain a replacement Social Security card. We hope this helps.

Some years ago they made me put my maiden name as my middle name on my drivers license which is T for Taylor. My social security card and my passport has my given name which is J for Jeannen. How important is it that they match and which one should I change.

    • Luis A.

Hi Vivian. It is important that your name matches on all documents, bank accounts accounts, with your employer, and everywhere else where your name is shown. You may be able to change your name on your social security card, as long as you have evidence of your legal name change by showing us documentation of your old and new names. We offer the option to mail your completed application with original or certified documents to your local Social Security office. Use this link to determine which documents you may need. Or you can go to your local office to make the changes when the time comes. You can find the Social Security office closest to you here. We hope this helps.
