Reflecting during Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the blessings we have in our lives. At Social Security, we are most thankful because we’re able to provide you with services, benefits, tools, and information to help you throughout life’s journey.

As more than just a retirement program, Social Security is truly a cornerstone for America. We proudly serve you online, by phone, and in person in our network of field offices. We are there for joyous moments like the birth of children and issuing their first Social Security card. We are there during times of hardship and tragedy, providing disability, spouse, and survivors benefits to the families of deceased workers.  And we’re there to help you celebrate your retirement, too.

Happy Thanksgiving, from our family to yours.

  1. Thank you for reaching out to share your heartfelt Thanksgiving reflections. Your generosity of Spirit is deeply appreciated.
I hope you and your family have a meaningful, joyous Thanksgiving Day celebration.

  2. Social Security has been a real blessing in our family’s life such as when I lost my dad to cancer and we got survivor benefits. Our oldest son who has lymphoma also receives Social Security disability benefits due to his serious illness. Some time next year, he will qualify for Medicare to help pay for his treatments. That is why I am proud to work for an agency that has benefited my family in so many ways over the years.

  3. I read on the Internet that President Trump signed a Bill, increasing the Social Security for us Seniors beginning December, 2017. Would that also mean an increase for us Seniors who are on SSD? If so, then how much more would I be getting in my monthly allotment, beginning January 1st, 2018?

  4. Hello, and we wish a happy Thanks Giving to all.
We pray we are here for the next Thanks Giving, we are going to loose our home due to foreclosure. We can’t seem to get any help any where the government won’t help us because of our private loan???
Thank you Ron & Kathy Sperling

  5. I am so thankful that SSDI was there for me when I became disabled and could no longer work. The system worked for me quickly and efficiently and has been a true lifesaver.

  11. I will need more than my present SS salary to live in the outside world. The place that I am in takes all my money and I need to have it to make my move to the outside world. Please give me the money from my check. I will be leaving here next week. I will give you my new address when I get it. Thank you so much.

  12. I am thankful for being at the mercy of hospitals and doctors. As a patient, I have no advocate(s). The hospitals and doctors have no restrictions or accountability except for being bound to the contracts they have with the insurance companies.

We, the patients, are being taken advantage of and many of us are unable to defend ourselves because of lack of money or time as a deadline to complain.

When it comes to healthcare, it looks like it’s all about the money and those of us who are on social security are the ones being hurt.

    • Thank you, Paul! We’re pleased we can help. We appreciate your thoughts. Thanks for your comment!
