Need a Replacement Social Security Card?

You can now apply for a replacement Social Security card online using your personal my Social Security account. If you meet all requirements and live in some states or the District of Columbia, you can start using this service today. Go to www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount for more information.

Step 2 is the SS-5 form, Application for a Social Security Card. Remember, any documents you submit to us must be originals or copies certified by the record holder. We will return them to you.     I have tried to use use the online method to replace my card and it just never comes in the mail. You don’t get any kind of confirmation and when I call Support they say they cannot help me, they have no access to that information. What am I supposed to do?

    It should say on the back of social security cards….DO NOT LAMINATE!

      Hi Amber, thank you for your suggestion. You are correct that you do not want to laminate or replicate your Social Security card. Lamination prevents detection of many security features. However, you may cover the card with plastic or other removable material if it does not damage the card.
