I downloaded an ss5 for a replacement SSA’s card. Where do I mail it and how long does it take to get the card?

    • V.V.

Hi Arthur, thanks for using our blog. Check out our Social Security Number and Card web page for details on how to get a new, replacement or corrected Social Security card including required documentation. If you are unable to apply online and you do not want to mail in your documents, which will be returned, you may need to wait for the offices to reopen. You can also call your local office and see if they will mail you an SSN printout instead of a replacement Social Security card. We are unable to process replacement Social Security card requests by phone at this time. Use our Social Security Office Locator to find your local office address. We hope this helps.

I have tried to create an account in order to get a replacement SS card. The security questions asked by this credit report firm are terrible! I would have to have my credit report in front of me to answer any of them! I am older and don’t remember loans in 2012 that we “may or may not ” have taken out. The questions are ridiculous! Many banks have changed names since then and the options listed no longer match. There must be a better way to verify your identity on line than going through this arduous process. I’ve been blocked from trying again and need my card to work at my new job. I have called and received no help from the SSI staff. Since offices are closed, what are my alternatives?

    • V.V.

Hi Muriel, thanks for using our blog. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you may be able to apply online. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to apply for a replacement Social Security card. If you cannot request a replacement card online, call your local office and see if they will mail you an SSN printout instead of a replacement Social Security card. My birthdate is wrong on my most recent social security statement that was sent to me. How do I correct it?

All documents must be either originals or certified copies. You will need to provide evidence of your age (for example, a U.S. public birth certificate) and current documentation for evidence of identity.
