At Social Security, protecting your personal information is more important than ever. We continue to evaluate and improve our robust cyber-security program to safeguard your information. The thing is, we can’t do it alone. You can help us secure your information by taking one of these steps:

  • Open your personal my Social Security account. A my Social Security  account is your gateway to many of our online services. Create your account today and take away the risk of someone else trying to create one in your name, even if they obtain your Social Security number.
  • If you already have a my Social Security  account, but haven’t signed in lately, take a moment to log in. We’ll send a one-time security code to your cell phone or to your email address each time you sign in with your username and password. The security code is part of our enhanced security feature to protect your personal information. Keep in mind that your cell phone provider’s text message and data rates may apply. If you suspect identity theft, report it to our Office of the Inspector General.
  • If you know your Social Security information has been compromised, and you don’t want to do business with us online, you can contact us to block any automated telephone and electronic access to your Social Security record. No one, including you, will be able to see or change your personal information on the internet or through our automated telephone service. If you block access to your record and then change your mind in the future, you can contact us and ask us to unblock it after you prove your identity. This resource is available to certain victims of domestic violence or identity theft and those who need extra security.

We will continue to do our part to protect what’s important to you. And we’ll continue to advise you on how to protect yourself.

I need to change my address

    • R.F.

Hi Fredia. People receiving Social Security (Retirement, Survivors and Disability) benefits and those enrolled in Medicare can use their personal “my Social Security account” to change their address and other contact information. Thanks!

Still can’t open account. Been 2 months trying.
You have an ID fraud epidemic that you don’t take seriously.
    Really shitty service from you.

1.Many of the links don’t work on your site.
    2. I can’t open an online account because SSA doesn’t recognize the info on my SS card.
    3. The people at the number the site gives to call to fix No.2 say they don’t deal with that problem and to call another number.
    3. The people at the other number say to call the people at the 1st number or to visit the SS office.
    4. Every time I visited the SS office in Rosilindale in October, there was at least a 5 hour wait.
    6. I wrote a letter to SSA requesting a hard copy of my statement. They sent me a letter with someone else’s SS number on it telling me that my info doesn’t match SSA’s info.
    7. Equifax notified me that my info has been compromised and that I need to secure my SS account. Given that no matter how I contact you, there seems to be a determined effort by SSA not to be of any help.
I’m curious; what would you do?

  8. Guy F.

Hi my name is guy Francois im olding a french passport I just move to New York right now I got a job but i need à Social sécurité for légalise my contract, so I would like to know what are my options to get this social security from USA office. ? Thank you very much

    • R.F.

Thank you for your question, Guy. Generally, only noncitizens authorized to work in the United States by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can get a Social Security number. Click here to see what documents you will need to bring to the local Social Security office or nearest Card Center to apply for a Social Security card.

would like to set an appointment to speak with a representative in reference to disability benefits and
what I need to bring to get benefits.

    • J.Y.

Hello. You can schedule a phone appointment by calling us at 1-800-772-1213 between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday and a representative will assist you. Representatives are available between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday but you will generally have a shorter wait time if you call later in the week. Or, you can make an appointment with your local field office. Thanks!
