Our Online Benefits Application

Our online benefits application provides a high level of security and protection for the information you provide. Filing online gives you the freedom and convenience to file for various types of benefits including Retirement, Disability, Supplemental Security Income, and Medicare.

Follow these simple steps to begin:

  1. Review the information on our Retirement/Spouse’s, Disability, Medicare, or Supplemental Security Income Benefits page to make sure you meet the requirements to apply for benefits online and have the information you will need to do so.
  2. Create or sign in to your personal my Social Security account. 
  3. File your claim online.
  4. Check the status of your claim by signing in to your personal my Social Security account.

You should be able to complete and submit your application all at once. But if that’s not possible, you can return to your application and continue right where you left off!

After you’ve completed your application, we’ll also give you a confirmation number to check the status, and information on what to do next. If we are not able to process the request, we will provide specific information on how to contact us by phone or schedule an office appointment.

    I cannot believe you lock out an account for 24 hours. How is this helping me when I need info now. This is a terrible policy. Everywhere else, including my bank account has alternatives for getting into my accounts. This needs to be reconsidered immediately.

    If I was able to work for 5 years with social security payments and I am now 62 yrs old, may I apply for retirement benefits, pls?

      Hi, Antonio. Thanks for your question. Generally, you will need to have 40 credits, or 10 years of work paying Social Security taxes, to qualify for any type of Social Security benefit. In addition, to qualify for disability benefits, you generally need to have worked for five out of the last 10 years before you became disabled. The rules are different for younger workers who become disabled or die.     Hello,
    I am trying to continue an application I began in Nov,2018 for my fiance. I do not have my re-entry or account code to get back to the application. How can I get this to finish the application ASAP?

      Hi, J. For your fiance’s security, we do not have access to private information in this venue. We ask that members in our Blog community work with our offices with specific questions. Your fiance can call us at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., for assistance. Generally, there will be a shorter wait if your fiance calls later in the day. Or your fiance can also contact their local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

    Do I need to go to my local department of social services to apply for Medicaid. Can I do it on line. Do you have the medication application on line. Can you tell me what I will need for Medicaid application either on line or locally.

    I completed and submitted an application for Retirement Benefits on 4/22/19 but when I log onto My Social Security I do not see it there. Is there a delay between when application is submitted and when it shows up in my account?

      Hi, David. Thanks for your question. If you are still encountering a problem with your personal my Social Security account, you may:
      •Call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. At the voice prompt, say “helpdesk”; or
      •Contact your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

    Good Day! My husband died ladt May 20, 2018 at Hamilton Hospital…A staff from SSA US Embassy Manila came to see me to and have some forms to fill up gor the lump sum death benefit of my husband. He advice me to apply gor a 5 year permanent residency in US in order to avail my husbands benefits….he said it is require because it is a Law. Last September 2018 I received a letter from SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION for SURVIVORS BENEFITS…it stated that I am qualified and eligible for the survivors benifits of my husband…since I am still here in a foreign country I can not get my monthly benefits until I will come to US for residency…My monthly benefits started last July 2018…since I am still processing all my papers… Can I withdraw my benefits once I will be here in US after staying a one month full calendar of the year before I will receive my regular monthly pension…can I also receive the previous months that I havent receive for the months of july 2018 up to the day that I will be here in US?…
