Inspector General Warns Public About OIG Impersonation Schemes

The Acting Inspector General of Social Security, Gale Stallworth Stone, is warning citizens about an ongoing Office of the Inspector General (OIG) impersonation scheme. The OIG has recently received reports from citizens about suspicious phone calls claiming to be from the Acting Inspector General.
The reports indicate the caller identifies as “Gale Stone” and states the person’s Social Security number (SSN) is at risk of being deactivated or deleted. The caller then asks the person to call a provided phone number to resolve the issue. Citizens should be aware that the scheme’s details may vary; however, citizens should avoid engaging with the caller or calling the number provided, as the caller might attempt to acquire personal information.
The Acting Inspector General urges citizens to be cautious, and to avoid providing information such as your SSN or bank account numbers to unknown persons over the phone or internet unless you are certain of who is receiving it. If you receive a suspicious call from someone alleging to be the Acting Inspector General or from the OIG, you should report that information to the OIG at 1-800-269-0271 or online via https://oig.ssa.gov/report.

Received a call from 1888-275-1797, saying that my social security number has been compromise. Call it back and a foreigner answer the phone. Did not give no information to him

I will not submit my social security number online to any reporting agency. Four voicemails were left at 11;00AM, 2:00PM, 4:00PM and 8:56 PM with the same caller number stating in the voice mail they were the social security crime and investigation unit on my home phone my home number which is unlisted. The number was a Palm Dale CA #, 760-797-7875. The caller was representing as the social security office. SCAM SCAM SCAM

I received a phone call stating that my social security number was invalid. And to press 1. I got this on my cell phone and the number that called me is 646-882-8080. Said it was from your office and they found suspicious activity.

I have been receiving several calls a day from:
802-693-0173 in Turnbridge, VT
They say they are from the ss admin and there is an issue for a warrant and to seize my assets because there are things I did not claim or report on my social security. They proceeded to (of course) ask my birthdate and ss#, of course I did not comply with their request. I used a bit of profanity, and of course they used a lot back, I told them to take my number off there List. They have called 4x today and I am getting sick and tired of them wasting my time!!!

im trying to find out if a(works in longview wash 98632 as i was askd for info on my bank account and a number of other things my moms maden name ect to find out if i can contunue to receve ssi the phone # is 1 866 5045016 ext 20002 i gave her the info and than i found out about the schames

Both my husband and I received calls within a week stating our social security #’s had been compromised and were being deleted along with our benefits etc. I didn’t respond to either call, I am hoping this is a scam, that I would be notified by mail if there were a problem with our #’s or benefits.
