When I try to apply for a mysocial security account it won’t accept my middle initial. I haven’t seen my social security card in years but am pretty sure that when it was issue it included my full middle name. Could that be an issue? I tried and failed three times and the website blocked me from trying again for 24 hours. Whats up with that?

  3. Gary S.

I live in the uk. Is it possible to still set up a social security account (i.e. by using my mother’s US address as my US “mailing” address)?

It sends unfair if I am completely precluded from seeing up an account and getting this information and updates just because I don’t live in the US right now

    • A.C.

Hi, Gary. We’re sorry for any inconvenience. Unfortunately, you will need your own U.S. address to register for a personal my Social Security account. However, you can contact your local Federal Benefits Unit for any assistance related to Social Security benefits. Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad. We hope this helps.

I have tried to create a “my social security” account, and was blocked. There were a series of questions, none of which were true of us (e.g., we have no car loan, no mortgage), and we got blocked out, as did my husband. Then someone helped him through it. I’ve been told I have to go to an office, a 15 mile trip to another town, to do this in person. We’d like a person in the help desk area to talk us through this on line. My husband’s person (Brian Berg) was able to do this.
