If I go to a Social Security office to open a my social security online account because I have a credit freeze, what documents do I need to take with me?

    • A.C.

Hi, Jeff. You are correct. You cannot create a my Social Security account online if you have a security freeze, fraud alert, or both on your credit report. If you do not have time to visit our office, you can ask Experian to remove the freeze or alert. However, you can create an account without removing the security freeze or fraud alert but you will have to visit your local Social Security office. Please be sure to bring a valid State identification card or driver’s license. We hope this helps.

What if I receive a warning “we cannot create an account for the SSN you entered”? It is a true and correct SSN and I am the true and correct assignee of that SSN. The warning provides no additional info… just says “contact us”.

I’ veg been trying to reset my password. Once I get through the security questions, get an access code, submit the access code, I’m taken to a screen to enter my new password. There is only ONE box to enter it. When I hit next, I get an error message saying my passwords do not match. There is only one box, how can it possible match without a second box?

Very frustrating, please fix this or let me know how I can update my password so I can access my account.

    Thank you.

I have filled out the online application but when I’ve finished reviewing the information and try to exit, it doesn’t tell me that the paperwork will be submitted, just that if I exit, I may not get my benefit. How do I submit for benefits when all the online paperwork is done?

    • V.V.

Hi there. You may want to check the status of your application just to ensure everything went through. You can check the status in your my Social Security account. It will provide details on the date of filing, the current claim location, and servicing office location.

If you are unable to open a my Social Security account, you can still call 1-800-772-1213 to check your claim status by using our automated system using the confirmation number you received when you filed your claim.

Your online service is excellence for people leaving in the US. But for Military and government civilian working oversea (like in Germany) your account creation do not allow to use an APO address. This happen because Equifax do not allow APO address causing a conflict during the verification process.
It will be great if SSA will support people working oversea too. Thanks

I am a U.S. citizen, born in Rochester NY.
