Enrique
Hi,
I am a retired American citizen, my question is, can I open a S S acct. while living abroad.
Thanks a lot.
R.F.
Thank you for your question, Enrique. The “my Social Security” authentication system requires address verification as one of the essential criteria for issuing an account. People with APO/FPO/DPO addresses can create an account overseas, but our system does not support registration and account creation for users with a foreign address yet.
We recommend that individuals living outside the United States contact their local U.S. embassy or consulate for any assistance related to Social Security programs and benefits. Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad.

The US Embassy no longer will work with SS because it is like talking to the bottom of the ocean. There is a SS office in Manila (I live in Vietnam) but they are useless and everyone knows this except SS USA. Thank you
Yves P.
It should be quite easy to modify your system by just adding a simple question like ”Do you want to use your foreign address already registered with Social Security ?”
Thanks,
Snarky
No.

Please know that I have diabetes, high blood pressure n now I need disability benefit now. Please!
R.F.
The Social Security Act sets out a strict definition for disability. We pay disability benefits to people who are unable to work because of a medical condition that is expected to last one year or more or to end in death. However, if a person believes they are disabled and meets our definition of disability, we encourage them to apply for disability as soon as they became disabled.
You can apply online, which is quick and easy. You can also apply by calling our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Or you can contact your local Social Security office directly. We hope this information helps!

My husband retired 12/31/17, and on 9/27/17 we signed him up for SS to begin January 2018. He received his first check mid-February. Why is that? One of the questions on the website was WHEN DO YOU WANT YOUR SS TO BEGIN? We entered January 2018, expecting his first check in January.
R.F.
Hi Theresa! Social Security benefits are paid the month after they are due. So, for instance, if you want your benefits to begin with the month of January, you will receive your first benefit payment in February.

Greetings, I’ve been told that every attempt I’ve made to create an account has failed because of the lock on my credit file – thanks to the USOPM data breach. I’ve sent two registered envelopes to Equifax, with everything they told me they needed the first time and all the additional material they said they needed the second time. The only thing it accomplished is that they notified me that they changed my credit file to my full middle name. What can I do? Thanks!
Snarky
Try again.

did you fix it?

Help! I am a Canadian resident but I have started to visit the USA for a few months in the winter. Would that US address qualify as my valid USA address?
