I’m having problems navigating this process. I can’t correct the security questions. I know I answered right; but don’t know what was inputed previously. I’m about to retire. I need help before hand

I am trying to help my husband file for disability. I keep getting the “We’re sorry. We cannot process your request”. I called the SSA office, but could only set up a phone interview for next month. Online would be a whole lot easier for him since he has neck cancer, and cannot talk. The SSA office also recommended I try a different browser. I tried 3 different browsers on 2 different computers! No luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How can I find out if I would collect more on my divorced husbands account. We were married 15 years and neither has remarried?

    • Ann C.

Hi, Roseann. Thanks for your question. To be eligible for divorced spouse benefits, you had to be married to your former spouse for at least 10 years, and you cannot be eligible for a higher benefit on your own record. For more information on how to qualify for divorced spouse benefits, visit our Benefits Planner. For additional specific questions, you can can call us at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., for assistance. You can also contact your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

I’ve been trying to file for ex-spouse benefits for my 86 year old mother going on 5 months now. And have gotten “No Where!” Trying to reach anyone by phone is a Joke. I’ve waited over an hour each time I’ve called only to get disconnected. I’ve also requested and waited hours to receive a call back that never happened. As far as visiting the local office’ Expecting an 86 year old to wait outdoors in a line that exceeds 60+yards just to reach the door is absolutely absurd. I finally was able to convince her to go through the excruciating process of creating an online account through Gov ID only to receive a message that the information That was provided was incorrect and to again call the toll free number for assistance
