Apply for Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Check if the person you are helping qualifies for SSI – and also apply – on our SSI page.

Apply for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits

When the unexpected happens and a loved one can no longer work due to a serious medical condition, our disability benefits can be a lifeline. Find out more on our Disability page.

Create a personal my Social Security account

If your loved one is planning for retirement or interested in estimating their future benefits, they can create a free and secure my Social Security account and view their Social Security Statement.

Check the status of a pending application for benefits

Checking the status of an application is quick and easy with a personal my Social Security account. If you don’t have an account, you can create one on our website.

Appeal a decision for benefits

If someone you know was denied Social Security benefits or SSI, they can request an appeal. We provide information on how to appeal decisions for both medical and non-medical reasons.

Hello. I have a daughter who is now 26 with a rare neurological disorder. My husband and I have always taken care of her, and never applied for Ssdi when she was younger but now that we are getting older, are finding taking care of her needs financially to be difficult. She is not able to work a typical paying job due to her reduced cognitive skills. How do we get her labeled as disabled and get her in disability benefits to help her with living costs?

    • Ann C.

Hi, Elizabeth. We are sorry to hear about your daughter’s condition. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a needs-based disability program that pays benefits to people with limited income and resources who are disabled, blind, or age 65 or older. Blind or disabled children may also get SSI. For more information, please visit our Supplemental Security Income webpage. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, on the other hand, are based on earnings and are not subject to income and resource limits. To see if your daughter may qualify and how to apply, please visit our Disability Benefits webpage. We hope this helps.

As soon As I have the opportunity I will bave the Ralph included in my full name as my mother wanted it ///
Most of all I do hope to receive my pension check transfer into my account as before so that I may pay my rent and eat properly again
The first names issue could have been resolved by simply presenting my birth certificate, who has the 2 first names mentioned Ralph Pierre

The SOCIAL sECURITY ADNIBISTRATION has shown its beneficial capacity to help the people in difficulties with its compassionates endeavors
At this stage I have 2 problems I need to solve //
No 1… I have received my pension chek transfer into my account for the months of March and April and thus I am facing difficulties as to pay my rent and to buy groceries so I can eat properly.
No 2…I have ny autistic brother Jean Robert Scharoun I would like to re-enlist to receive again his suspended SSI BENEFITS/
I hAVE THE AUTHORIZARION FROM Supreme Court of NY WHO had awarded me to be the legal Guardian and Tutor of my brother ..
So I need receive as soon as it is possible my pension transfer check into my account again like before…And I need to have my autistic brother re-enlist to receive his SSI benefits again… My birth certificate has mentioned my full name as Ralph Pierre Scharoun but due to space in my early registration only Pierre remained but still most of my frieds called me Ralph So when Ihave the chance I will have the Ralph included legaly
