man and woman on laptop It’s that time of year again. Preparing for tax season can seem overwhelming. Some forms and paperwork might be difficult to track down. If you misplaced your Benefits Statement or haven’t received it by the end of January, we’ve made it easy to go online to get a replacement with a personal my Social Security account.

An SSA-1099, also called a Benefit Statement, is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to the more than 60 million people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits received from Social Security in the previous year so people know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on their tax return.

For noncitizens who live outside of the United States and received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we’ll send form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

If you currently live in the United States and need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, we have a way for you to get a replacement quickly and easily. Go online and get a replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.

Every worker in the United States should create a personal my Social Security account. The secure and personalized features of my Social Security are valuable tools to help Americans plan for retirement.

My son, John E. Keen, needs his SSA-1099, we are requesting that you mail it to his address, he is unable to go online to access it at this time. We also need to know how many months, or if he was covered by insurance and the 1095 to go with that. He has been working at a job for about 6 months now and we are preparing his tax return. Will send you the SS# when you respond, thank you

It would be great if your 1099s were available online for last 3-5 years so when we have to do back taxes for our states or the fed, we could print them from online on our secure account.

  7. Keith N.

I have yet to receive a SS W2 in the mail. I would like to receive one buy mail for tax purposes. My first year on SS was 2018.

I did not receive my SS 1040SR

    • V.V.

Hi John. If you’re referring to the SSA-1099, Social Security sends them in January to people who receive Social Security benefits using the address that’s on file with Social Security. If you haven’t received one, you may want to ensure you address is correct.

You can request a replacement 2018 SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S after February 1 using your my Social Security account. If you do not already have an account, you can create one. Once you are logged in to your account, select the “Replacement Documents” tab.
