Get a Replacement Social Security Tax Form Online With Ease

If you misplaced your Benefits Statement or haven’t received it by the end of January, we’ve made it easy to go online to get a replacement with a personal my Social Security account.

An SSA-1099, also called a Benefit Statement, is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to the more than 60 million people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits received from Social Security in the previous year so people know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on their tax return.

For noncitizens who live outside of the United States and received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we’ll send form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

    I am the executor of my brother’s estate. He passed 1/12/2018. I am required to file his 2017 income tax returns but don’t have or know how to obtain his SS 1099 for 2017. Can you help.

      We’re sorry to hear about the loss of your brother, Tom. You will need to go into the local Social Security office with proof of death and proof of executorship, and request a replacement Form SSA-1099.
      In certain cases, we may disclose SSA-1099 information from the record of a deceased person, only to a survivor of the deceased and only if we are able to establish the relationship of the survivor to the deceased based on SSA records.

    I have an IRS/SSA issue. The original Form SSA-1099 for 2016 reported substantially more SSD than I actually received. IRS determined the tax liability based on that amount. The local SSA office this spring kindly wrote a letter that the 2016 income was substantially less than reported. How does one obtain an amended SSA-1099 for 2016 to reflect the correct amount?

      Hello Christopher, you need to submit a request for a corrected copy of the Form SSA-1099, through your local office. You can request to speak with the manager to see how we can help to expedite resolution of your situation.
      If you are unable to visit the local office, you can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213, representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Generally, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later in the week. Thanks.

    I HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR OVER 2 HOURS TO ACCESS MY SOC. SEC. ONLINE. FIRST THE WEBSITE DOESN’T RECOGNIZE MY LOG-IN. THEN WHEN I TRY TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS TO ‘CREATE’ A NEW ACCOUNT; IT TELLS ME THAT THEY ALREADY HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH MY INFORMATION; WHEN I CLICK ON ‘RETRIEVE ACCOUNT’ IT THEN STATES ACCOUNT ‘CANNOT BE FOUND’. – “ROUND AND ROUND” OVER AND OVER ! THIS IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF MY TIME. I ONLY NEED A REPRINT OF MY BENEFIT ‘AWARD’ FOR THE CURRENT YEAR [2018] FOR NYS ‘ADAP’ SERVICES.
