“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

This is my update to people on ssi The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) was signed on March 27, 2020. But for Americans on Social Security – especially for those in low-income situations – there continue to be a lot of questions. The IRS and the U.S. Treasury are still working to provide guidance for all circumstances. Here is what we know so far.

    At a glance:

The U.S. government passed a stimulus bill giving eligible individuals a one-time payment of up to $1,200, up to $2,400 for joint filers, plus $500 for each qualifying child.
This includes people who collect Social Security benefits for retirement, disability, or Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
The government will use information from your Form SSA-1099 Social Security Benefit Statement, Form RRB-1099 Social Security Equivalent Benefit Statement, or a tax return to determine how much you qualify for.
If the IRS may not have information about dependents for senior citizens, Social Security recipients and railroad retirees who are not otherwise required to file a tax return. At this time, these people will receive $1,200 per person, without the additional $500 for dependents.
You do not need to take additional steps to receive a stimulus payment. If you don’t have a tax filing requirement because your income is too low, you do not need to file a tax return just to get a stimulus check.

1099 forms literally do not exist for S.S.I. and V.A. recipients. This means THEY still have to file, which is the whole reason Turbotax created a special option to file for a stimulus check. No other Social Security recipients have to file. Just S.S.I. and V.A. recipients.William is right. I looked it all up on the I.R.S. website and had it confirmed here. They’re trying to fix this, but it hasn’t been fixed yet. I wish the people running this site would do a press release about it, so people can finally get a better understanding of the situation instead of being rude whenever someone tries to explain it all.

    • supperdodo

Well SAID, if only some others would follow what your saying , i agree every word you said thats what i read as well, its too bad fear grips people and when that happens a person cant think correct because fear has a hold on them, you sir have spoken well im glad you explain this thank you for your contribution of knowledge here

    • William

This info is misleading and incomplete. The I.R.S. does a poor job of explaining the entire situation for S.S.I. and V.A. people. My guess is that they’re hoping people either won’t notice the situation, or are so busy trying to rectify it that they haven’t bothered to update their site. Several senators have already written to the I.R.S. about the situation and tring to fix it so that S.S.I. and V.A. recipients get their funds automatically just like other Social Security beneficiaries

Note For Supperdodo. I can’t see your posts. I’ve blocked you using a webfilter of sorts. So, if you’ve said anything, it went unread and will continue to go unread. I have no interest in your abusive, dishonest posts. I can tell you’re still ranting because of the responses of others, but you’re wasting your energy, because I can’t even see what you write anymore. Also, Tina is right. You don’t act like a veteran. Military types are usually way more disciplined and way more respectful. God Bless the real military people who know how to act like real soldiers.

      • supperdodo

Thank you so much it was my job to do .

      • supperdodo

Your really stupid i been out from the service for 50 years you dumb as wipe do you think i give a rat as what you or friends say, its you who dis-respect any service members whom been there whether it be 4 yrs or 60 years or more god willing, when you disrespect me im tell you this you are disrespecting all members in or out do you get that ? i need not prove a fxxking thing to any of your or you of friends on here ok. Your still a nobody in my eyes on here and so are your friends , leave my personal experiences out and stick with social security facts, if you know them, but you dont, and for your info i can if i want bring on others too who will stick up for me as well, so how you like apples? Your dumb william i can play your game too as wipe!!!

      • Jenny

I have read this from the top and i can read that some guy has has been name calling insults toward supperdodo and i must agree if any one disrespect any military members in or out or retired they have disrespected all who have served or is still serving. And i see that it not supperdodo he has done nothing wrong but serve our country thank you supperdodo for keeping us free. And to rest of those should be ashamed to question anyone service for keeping us free . i never seen so much low life to attack a service member .. We all earn the right to speak freely by the great service members who gave there life for us those who live through It god bless them and thank you for your services thank you supperdodo

        • Johnson

It was supperdodo that was insulting people. Don’t lie for him. He’s been pretty horrible and not acting like a respectable person. If I were his commanding officer, I’d boot supperdodo out of the military. However, I seriously doubt he was ever military. He initially started insulting William by calling him old, stupid, etc. Then went on to claim himself to have been out of the military for 50 years, which would make supperdodo a VERY old veteran if his claim were true. I suspect that supperdodo is nothing more than an Internet troll claiming to be someone he isn’t.

          • Tina

I suspect “Jenny” is supperdodo. Just look at the writing style. Very similar.

          • jenny

Im not sticking up for anyone i saw that william n tina has been bad mouthing supperdodo and this is all true. These are the only two who bad mouthed supperdodo i have read this whole thing and i see that supperdodo defended against those two who attacked .i can only say this supperdodo is a true hero to go against those who attack so well done i would want supperdodo to defend this country in that time of need so gun ho and brave to do . while others ran away ? Did you ever think supperdodo is old too ? And did that part in life ? I think supperdodo did do that part in life and i will always thank those who served god bless them all for being brave and willing to do.

          • William

Supperdodo is definitely “Jenny”. I blocked “her” too. He really is unhinged. I suspect he is a 4channer.

  2. William

Daily Reminder:If you ONLY receive S.S.I. or V.A. benefits you will NOT, at least not until this situation is remedied, automatically receive your stimulus funds. You still have to file. Turbo Tax currently let’s you file for stimulus even if you have no other income. All other social security recipients are the ones who don’t have to file. Not all Social Security programs are the same program. The ones that make use of 1099 forms are the ones that get their stimulus funds automatically. The ones that don’t use 1099 forms (S.S.I. and V.A. benefits) still have to file. Disregard supperdodo, he has no idea what he’s talking about. I’m currently ignoring him, because he’s an abusive and rude individual whose ignorance will cause harm to others.

    • supperdodo

People daily reminder william has loose screws he dont know what he talking about he knows nothing all people will get that stimulus CHECK and yes william i am telling the truth you are still lying to people your life is a lie, go bother the fish they may listen hooraahh you as wipe

      • Tina

William is right. Do the research. Also, my father was military and he never acted as disrespectful as you. If he had, he would have been dishonorable discharged or at the very least demoted for conduct unbecoming of an officer. You, Sir, are a disgrace to the uniform, assuming you ever wore one.

        • supperdodo

Let me say this i learn to work not take handouts, i earned my benefits and you lady are in no position to conduct my behavior of whom i am ok , and i beed not explain to you who i am, i did serve this country with full honors, dd-214 says so ok, as for william he’s been bad mouthing me from way back up on here ok, so i will not sit still and let him get away with his words he worry cause he a ssi and fear got him, so he acts out in desperate moods , my dad was in the army and the Navy 4 years each, and i join up i didnt run away or stay in college i went up and join like a man ok, so you can go fxxk yourself and the what a military person would say to you ok and if you dont like it guess what I DONT CARE OK , this is the way we talk and if you dont like it its call tuff shxt ok you what ever you call your self have never been in the service, so there for you have no idea what we did there , to all my brother’s we know best, but not you or william your friend, you’s no NOTHING, you’s are a nobody here ok , get on with your useless life and leave me alone if you cant i’ll be here ok

          • Tina

You’re a disgrace to the uniform. You lie. You harass people. You act like an entitled bully. I went back and read all your posts. You, not William, are the one who started and continue the insults. You are in the wrong, but I guess you will never man up and accept responsibility for your actions, because you are not and never were a real soldier. If you had any brains, you would apologize and walk away.

    • supperdodo

No no no william your still bad mouthing me you should be banned you are misinforming these people here you are a no body here you represent yourself here, no one else why should anybody listen to an old crack pot, like you your still a no body here we all know this !!! Haven’t you known this already well you should have mr. Nobody

      • Tina

William isn’t badmouthing you. He’s telling the truth and you’re attacking him for it. You need to stop cyberstalking people. It’s very creepy.

        • supperdodo

Blua da he attacking me for when i said ALL social security people will get stimulus CHECK, what in the world is wrong in that? Absolutely NOTHING it was me whom inform go to i.r.s. newsletter stimulus check and get that info thats all i been saying but noooooo william has continued to bad me in some of the low life ways he is , ok. So of course i will defend myself , ok you and him are Cyber bulling on.me here how by you saying what you started first off here ok so think about that .

          • Tina

Are you drunk or on illegal drugs? You don’t even make any sense half the time. You should seek professional help. There is something very wrong with you. You seem like you might hurt yourself.

  3. Cassondra C.

I am a representative payee, meaning I recieve my daughters social security survivirs check that she gets because her father passed away. I get it on a direct express card that is issued my Social security. I am unemployed so I do not file taxes. Will my stimulus check come automatically since Social security has my direct deposit info already where I recieve her check? Because I am an unemployed representative payee of social security for her, Do I fall under the category of people who recieve social security and need to do nothing to recieve my check?

  4. LAB

I realize this is a very stressful time, but we’re powerless over WHEN the government will issue the stimulus checks. I pray people will stop bickering & calling each other names. It’s really not necessary, so please spend your time spreading positivity instead of negativity.

    • William

You’ve done an excellent job of verifying everything I’ve been saying. I just hope supperdodo comprehends what you posted or he will continue with his belligerence and ignorance. He honestly reminds me of a guy I know in the real world. It took several people to finally get that person to see the light and stop being so annoyingly and dangerously wrong.

I see it this way…if S.S.I. and V.A. people listen to him and do nothing before the filing deadline is reached and the I.R.S. has still not remedied the situation, then a lot of S S.I. and V.A. recipients will never receive a stimulus check. Money they desperately need and deserve to have.

Ordinarily I’d just ignore someone as blindly idiotic as supperdodo, but under the aforementioned circumstances, I’d be just as bad as him if I didn’t try to at least steer people away from his half-truths and poorly researched statements. It’s obvious you’re intelligent, so you get why I can’t just sit back and let his lies go unchecked. His lies could hurt a lot of innocent people who are already confused enough by the entire situation.

You get the situation. I get the situation. Supperdodo doesn’t and that’s bad for others who have comprehension problems due to their disabilities or general lack of knowledge about the situation. Supperdodo’s extreme ignorance and blind volatility is bad for everyone. If I were a moderator, I’d have him permabanned just to keep people safe from his abusive tirades.

      • supperdodo

Get out of william what you been saying is social security and vetrans and some other social security people need to file a tax return THATS WHAT YOU BEEN SAYING not what others are saying WHAT I SAID. All social security people will get the stimulus check without filing a tax return, but you william said we needed to file one because of some loophole so you say so exist someplace in you feed which was old news way back way way back, william you dont know squat, so now you know you been wrong and can’t man up to it, so now you side with what is the truth, and it seems its the others whom have a good head on there shoulders to spread the good word of real up to date news, but not you william your old news like yourself old !!!! Hahaha trying to take credit from what others say, lmfaso at you your a joke, and a sick one at that going senile already as expected from you william, and besides this your a nothing a nobody of no importance here

        • William

Take your meds. Your rants aren’t even coherent. Also, stop lying. It’s just stupid.

          • supperdodo

William your falling off track on this stick with the covo on social security stimulus checks your still a no body here you got no ump no NOTHING no gut no glory,

        • supperdodo

And just this one other thing or a few ? You should be banned your the one whom attacked me with your slanderous nonsense words first. Because you think your right, and attack me what i say, if you didint like what i said you didnt have to say what you been still saying of about me, your still carrying on still bad mouthing me, yeah so naturally im going to defend myself, as for me i was a high earner and i am a veteran and believe me im not worry at all here, i will say THIS all social security people will get that stimulus hand out, and some other of a few too. Hooraahh get it ?

          • William

            Go bother someone else, liar.

  5. LAB

I copied the below article in quotations ” ” from ssa.gov & the Commissioner of Social Security wrote it.

It blows my mind that so many people are posting questions about the stimulus check when the answer is in black & white if you would scroll up to read it!!!

Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.

We will continue to update Social Security’s Coronavirus COVID-19 web page as further details become available.”

  6. LAB

I copied the below article in quotations ” ” from the IRS website. To all those who think they know everything…here iij t is straight from the horses mouth ?

    ” Economic Impact Payment Information

Here is what you need to know about your Economic Impact Payment. For most taxpayers, payments are automatic, and no further action is needed. This includes taxpayers who filed tax returns in 2018 and 2019 and most seniors and retirees.

    Who is eligible?

U.S. residents will receive the Economic Impact Payment of $1,200 for individual or head of household filers, and $2,400 for married filing jointly if they are not a dependent of another taxpayer and have a work eligible Social Security number with adjusted gross income up to:

    $75,000 for individuals
$112,500 for head of household filers and
$150,000 for married couples filing joint returns
Taxpayers will receive a reduced payment if their AGI is between:

$75,000 and $99,000 if their filing status was single or married filing separately
112,500 and $136,500 for head of household
$150,000 and $198,000 if their filing status was married filing jointly
The amount of the reduced payment will be based upon the taxpayers specific adjusted gross income.

Eligible retirees and recipients of Social Security, Railroad Retirement, disability or veterans’ benefits as well as taxpayers who do not make enough money to normally have to file a tax return will receive a payment. This also includes those who have no income, as well as those whose income comes entirely from certain benefit programs, such as Supplemental Security Income benefits.

Retirees who receive either Social Security retirement or Railroad Retirement benefits will also receive payments automatically.”

  7. William

Reminder everyone…If you ONLY receive S.S.I. or V.A. benefits you will NOT, at least not until this situation is remedied, automatically receive your stimulus funds.

I’m personally waiting to see if the I.R.S. remedies this situation, because I have no desire to wait for 5+ months for my much needed stimulus funds. I want mine deposited into my Direct Express account, which can’t happen if I file with Turbotax, because like many S.S.I. and V.A. recipients using only a Direct Express account, I have no access to my account number or routing number, because the Social Security Administration handles all that.

    • supperdodo

Shit your dumb do you know what bank offers or controls your direct express card ? Do you ? Guess what i do, and do i want to tell you this fxxck no and i wont your not worthy of such info, im not worry im getting one and i need not explain anything to you, i earn it its as simple as that, i just hope all people get theirs too , whether you earn it or not, and again from what i see ,, is all social security people will get it , whether its in a few wks or later all will get one , remember its a hand out, so stop being greedy for it, when it comes it comes live as we all have been doing anyways life was never meant to be easy and thats life.

      • Tina

        Take your meds psycho.

      • Cassondra L.

Is there a way to find out my direct express bank info? I do not get social security myself but I do get a social security check every month in my name on my direct express card for my daughter. She is 12 and she gets a ssi survivors check and because she is under age, I am the representative payee. I am also unemployed so I don’t know is I fall under the category of people who need not do anything because the get social security. I can find NO information about this subject online anywhere. So to be safe I was going to fill out the turbo tax registration but the only cards I have are a prepaid card and my direct express card. But I have no idea how to get routing number and bank number for the Direct Express card. The prepaid card I have (Chime) has a bank and routing number but from what ive read the stimulus checks will not be issued to prepaid cards or cards issued thru green dot. Any info you could give would be amazing. Thanks 🙂

        • William

You could call the Social Security Administration and ask them for your account number and routing info, but I was under the impression they don’t give those out for security reasons. Never hurts to ask them though.

    • Becky

I owe back child support and make bi-weekly payments trying to catch up without complaining. I had my hours cut at work and need some help. Why can’t I get a stimulus check? I am struggling too!

    • jay d.

yup they screwed people on ssi and va man that suddoguy is a moron like 90 percent here wtf people instead of here go to irs site thatt simple the simple tax form is there but like he said i cant get my numbers either wtf lol ty will for letting people know i gave up

  8. Carol

My 28 year old son receives SSI. He lives alone & his monthly check is for rent & living expenses. I am his rep payee and we have a joint checking account. I work full time & do not claim him as a dependent on my taxes. I know I’m getting $1,200 but since I’m his rep payee, is he still entitled to the $1,200 also for himself?

    • V.V.

Hi Carol. Thank you for your question. At this time, we do not have any additional information about how economic impact payments will be processed for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making direct payments to eligible people. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information at http://www.irs.gov/coronavirus when available. We hope this is helpful for you.

  9. Dan

Quick question…I filed married jointly already for 2019 taxes, but started to receive SSDI mid 2019,but worked for 4 months as well…I should receive the 2400.00 per couple check, correct? They go by taxes filed first hopefully…..I currently just have SSDI income as of 2020…any knowledge would be appreciated..

  10. Sara h.

I get SSI will I get a stimulas check to or will any of the people on SSI in Lexington Kentucky get them to

    • William

Lurk moar. Seriously. Read all the posts before asking questions that have already been asked and answered many times.

    • V.V.

Hi Sara. Hi. Thank you for your question. Recipients of Supplemental Security Income will get an economic impact payment. We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information at Coronavirus Tax Relief when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months. We hope this helps.
