“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

SSA: Please answer this question! This entire forum is full of unhelpful comments. A bunch of people are asking this same question and we’ve yet to get an answer from you guys.

I am married with 1 child. I receive SSI, along with my child who is disabled. My husband does not file taxes. Will the entire amount of $2,900 ($2,400 for couple + $500 per child) be deposited into my account as one check or does my spouse need to file separately to get his?

    • V.V.

Hi Victoria. Thank you for your question. At this time, we do not have any additional information about how economic impact payments will be processed for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making direct payments to eligible people. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information at http://www.irs.gov/coronavirus when available.

  4. Sherry K.

    When will it be deposited

    • V.V.

Hi Sherry. Treasury, not Social Security, will make the economic income payments. We do not have information about the schedule for these payments. The IRS will provide additional information at http://www.irs.gov/coronavirus.

If an individual receives social security and have dependent children under the age of 17, what do they need to do in order to receive the $500 per dependent child?

if you get ssa 1099 form in January do nothing BUT if you get ssa 1099 AND have a dependent you will need to file your info with irs. the link above has a link to take you to the site to give info for the additional 500 for dependent.
even if your dependent gets a ssa 1099 they will not get stimulus if under 17 and isnt claimed so best to follow link above to file info for the dependents stimulus

Ok could someone please verify this question?

If you are on Social Security… and receive 1099 forms, you never had to file before, you still don’t have to file, you get the check automatically?
SSA sends me my benefits every month to my direct deposit bank account. I’ve never filed taxes on Social security because I would get 0 back.
I am talking social security recipients, not SSI.

    • V.V.

Hi Fay. Thank you for your question. Economic impact payments will be made to eligible people who receive Social Security retirement, disability, or survivors benefits. The IRS will use SSA-1099 information that we provide them to automatically generate $1,200 economic impact payments to eligible Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019. Please visit http://www.irs.gov/coronavirus to learn more.

You must be very bored and very lonely. You should make some friends, get some hobbies, maybe get a girlfriend. Why are you bothering these people?

  10. William

I wish you luck everyone. Read the information provided and stay safe. Don’t take any poster’s word for it. Lot of ignorance on this thread. Research everything yourself and get it verified by the people in charge. I’ve helped all I can. Thank you to everyone who didn’t act rudely. Keep up the good work and remember to eat your brocolli. 🙂

    • Tiff

What do you mean I hope it is good news for everyone
