“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

Who said that ppl on ssi , Ssdi , etc . , government income, do not get their relief check until the second round of checks ? I didn’t hear this at all . Quite the contrary actually. Was just curious where this info came from ????

    • MJ

The US website said ssi and ss recipients would receive a stimulus. They also said lowest incomes would receive help first.

THE REAL QUESTION IS WHEN WILL OUR STIMULUS CHECKS BE DIRECT DEPOSITED BECAUSE IM READING APRIL 15TH BUT WHY NOT JUST START NOW? BEING THAT WE NEED IT NOW. IT JUST SEEMS TO ME THAT IF ITS JUST A MATTER OF COMPUTATION WORK THEN JUST GET IT DONE ASAP. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

If dependent people don’t get the checks it would not be fair because this from 2017 was from Dependent Care Savings Accounts (DCSAs) – These tax-free accounts could be established by all tax payers (regardless of income) for their dependents, including unborn children. Annual contributions will be limited to $2,000 (all sources) and when the child reaches 18 can be used for education expenses. Lower income earners will get a 50 percent match on parental contributions of up to $1,000 per year for these households.

So I think they should still get it

My husband receives social security benefits and va retirement but I have not yet filed for my social security. He files both as married so will we automatically get the married couple amount of 2400 ( make much less than 150 ) or will he only get 1200 and I have to fill out that form desperately ??? We do not file a tax return and I do not work.

    Thanks!

I want to know if social security recipients are still getting the extra $200 a month until the end of 2021?

Hi, My wife died in Feb. of last year. I would like to get her 1099 for income tax purposes. The SSA site (here) says I need to go to a SSA office. Is that necessary during the “lockdown or is there an alternative?

    • V.V.

We’re sorry to hear about your loss, Raymond. The benefit statement is mailed to the last address in our records and is intended for the spouse or executor of the deceased. If you do not have access to the mail at that address, the executor will need to go into the local field office with proof of death and proof of executorship. An SSA-1099 can also be given to someone receiving benefits on the deceased beneficiary’s record such as a spouse, parent, or child of the deceased. Unfortunately, you may need to wait for the offices to reopen. We apologize for the inconvenience.
