“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

What if someone is on ssi and worked this year and did not get to file there imcome taxes would they still get the stimulus check if they are on ssi now and then the another thing is when is people getting the stimulus check

  2. Patty

What if someone gets SSI and worked and also filed there taxes you can work part time still and draw SSI if that is the case those who did work in 2019 will get it so that means I would benefit and IRS owes me for earned income credit I still did not receive.

People receiving S.S.I. and V.A. benefits will NOT be receiving their stimulus funds automatically. All over the Internet I see morons making false claims that they will. I repeat…People receiving S.S.I. and V.A. benefits will NOT be receiving their stimulus funds automatically.

Until the I.R.S. and Social Security change this…I repeat…People receiving S.S.I. and V.A. benefits will NOT be receiving their stimulus funds automatically. I’m tired of seeing idiots making false claims that this problem has been resolved. It has not yet been resolved.

Several organizations and govt. employees are pushing for this to be resolved, but it has NOT been resolved yet. All those news sites making false claims that it has been resolved for S.S.I. recipients and V.A. recipients need to fact check their sources before making false claims.

I repeat…People receiving S.S.I. and V.A. benefits will NOT be receiving their stimulus funds automatically. This has yet to be rectified. S.S.I. recipients and V.A. recipients DO qualify if they aren’t someone’s dependent. However, I repeat…for the final time…People receiving S.S.I. and V.A. benefits will NOT be receiving their stimulus funds automatically.

Not until the I.R.S. and Social Security fix this. Don’t stop pushing for this to be fixed people. It has not yet been fixed.

    1. What about incarcerated individual s who owe back time child support with no way to file?
    2. If I filed but was garnished/arrears applied to back taxes, do they use that direct deposit information?
    3. Does the tier for income vs./for the payment dates still apply for direct deposit?

  5. Charles

When will we get the stimulus check for ssi this month bc I’m seeing the 13th all direct deposit are being on that day

  6. Charles S.

Will ppl on ssi get the stimulus chuck

    • William

If you only receive S.S.I. or V.A. benefits, you still have to file. Neither the I.R.S., nor Social Security have fixed this oversight yet.

Economic impact payments will go out to every Veteran every person that”s on SSI SSDI. That’s what it states on the IRS.com/Coronavirus. Yes. The IRS will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 or Form RRB-1099 to generate Economic Impact Payments to recipients of benefits reflected in the Form SSA-1099 or Form RRB-1099 who are not required to file a tax return and did not file a return for 2018 or 2019. This includes senior citizens, Social Security recipients and railroad retirees who are not otherwise required to file a tax return.

Since the IRS would not have information regarding any dependents for these people, each person would receive $1,200 per person, without the additional amount for any dependents at this time. in 2008 Obama didn’t give stimulus to any ssi ssdi or veteran, He screwed every person that put into the system, he was and still is the shitties President ever. President Trump is not leaving none of us behind.

    • People

You forgot to say the important part where people on SSI still have to file

      • Joe

Also forgot it was President Bush that signed 2008 stimulus.

  8. Michelle

I have a child on SSI. Do I report the stimulus check as income?

  9. Ariel

So question. 3 kiddos on ssi (4 kiddos total) obviously they took all family members/household social security numbers when filing for ssi so they have all information since only income at this time is SSI they said I wasnt required to file tax return So would my stimulus check be added on or does anyone how that would work all of their SSI payments are made via direct deposit if that makes a difference (no idea if that effects anything)

Hi everyone I was wondering if my daughter is 19 totally disabled and receives Social Security disability and I file her as a dependent on my tax return will she still qualify for a stimulus check?

    • Joe

I’m just guessing from this article but I dont think she will and not sure you can get the $500 for her. I hope you she can get something one way. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1177266

    • jay d.

no dependents do not get checks swear just look it up on irs site

      • Tara

So most disabled dependents filled as dependents on someone taxes, but we still have bills and living expenses. So we don’t qualify as dependent money and we don’t get a stimulus payment… so what we don’t exist? You’re missing an entire group of people that really need the money also. A single $700 check a month to live on isn’t as much as you think. You can send to dead people and you can send it to inmates but we just don’t exists? Explain this?
